Image: Look for Nevada to give Margarito back his boxing license for the Pacquiao fightBy Jim Dower: Antonio Margarito will be getting another chance at trying to get his boxing license back with the Nevada Athletic Commission in August. They already rejected Margarito’s attempt at getting his license back. However, this time I’m pretty sure they’ll give it to him. Things have changed dramatically from the last time that Margarito applied to the Commission. Before, Margarito didn’t have an opponent lined up, and it was easy for the Commission to deny his request by a 4-1 vote and to tell him to go to the California Athletic Commission and try his luck there. But Margarito is now lined up to fight Manny Pacquiao, one of the biggest stars in boxing. Something tells me that the Nevada Athletic Commission won’t hesitate to give Margarito his boxing license back on the 2nd attempt. My guess is they’ll give back his license by a slam dunk 5-0 vote.

The reason is simple. Bob Arum, Pacquiao and Margarito’s promoter, wants to have their fight take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas. What this means for the Commission is that big money will be coming to Las Vegas for the fight. The Casinos are going to be highly upset with the Nevada Commission if they fail to grant Margarito his license and he’s forced to seek it out in another state.

Arum is ready to take Margarito to New Jersey and Texas to try and get his boxing license back, and the chances are good that one of those two states will give it to him, knowing the big money that a Pacquiao-Margarito fight will bring to their state. The Nevada Commission probably won’t want to be the ones that less this big fight escape. This is why I think they’re pretty much all going to vote yes for Margarito when he comes up before them in a second vote.
