Arum needs to match Pacquiao up against Berto or Bradley

By Dan Ambrose: I think Bob Arum is wasting his time putting WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao back in for a fight against Miguel Cotto, and I don’t think boxing fans have the slightest interest in seeing Pacquiao matched up against Antonio Margarito. This reminds me a lot of how Arum put Pacquiao in with Joshua Clottey in his fight and it ended up not doing so well on pay per view.

I hope Arum isn’t tone death to what the fans want to see. Fans want to see Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., but since that fight probably isn’t going to be happening because of something in the contract that Mayweather doesn’t agree with, a better idea would be for Pacquiao to be matched against champions Andre Berto or Timothy Bradley.

Both of them are undefeated, which you can’t say the same thing for Cotto and Margarito. Of course, neither Bradley or Berto fight for Arum, but he’ll still make good money in putting Pacquiao in with either of those guys. It just seems silly to have Pacquiao fight Cotto right now when he just finished beating the stuffing out of him last November.

The smoke hasn’t even finished clearing from that one-sided slaughter and Arum is looking to match the two fighters again. That seems kind of backwards if you ask me. It’s like lets fight a rematch of a one-sided fight, because it did well on PPV. It’s going to the troth one time too many.

If Pacquiao is into collecting trinkets, then let him fight one of the other champions at light middleweight or how about having WBC middlweight champion Sergio Martinez fighting Pacquiao at a catch weight? That would be a heck of a lot more interesting than seeing Pacquiao beat up on Cotto again or have to travel to Mexico to fight Margarito because he can’t get licensed in the United States.
