Is Froch giving himself too much credit by worrying about losing a controversial decision to Abraham in Germany?

Image: Is Froch giving himself too much credit by worrying about losing a controversial decision to Abraham in Germany?By William Mackay: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) has recently said that he wants no part in fighting Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in Germany for their stage 3 super Six tournament fight in August or September. Froch fears that he can’t win a decision in Germany because of the judging. But I think Froch is really seeing things kind of twisted. Instead of worrying about losing a controversial decision to Abraham, Froch should be worrying about being knocked out by Abraham because I see that as the most likely scenario of a fight between them.

Abraham has been a killer in the Super Six tourney and has shown some awesome power that most fighters just can’t take. Froch might need to sit down and watch some more of Abraham’s fights before he goes off the handle and starts thinking he could lose a decision to Abraham.

Froch needs to be thinking of how to survive the fight and not so much about finding the right venue for him to get a fairer decision. Abraham isn’t that kind of a fighter. He’s like a super middleweight version of Julian Jackson with his huge power. Abraham doesn’t need to throw a lot of punches because with his huge power, he’s capable of turning a fight around at a moment’s notice.

Abraham likes to wait until the later part of his fights before he comes on. He attacks opponents when they’re at their most vulnerable point from having attacked him and used up much of their energy landing on his gloves. Abraham is one of those rare fighters that carries his power late into his fights. I’ve never seen Abraham win one fight that looked to be even remotely questionable, other than the 12 round decision win over Edison Miranda.

But that fight could have been Miranda’s had he not thrown so many low blows and head butted Abraham. The judges got the scoring right even in that fight. Thus far, Froch has turned down Germany, Sweden and now Majorca for fight venues for the Abraham fight. But he needs to get real and see that there really isn’t much to worry about in terms of losing a questionable decision to Abraham.

Believe me, if Froch loses to Abraham by decision, it will likely be a clear cut case of Abraham having too much power, landing too cleanly and getting the better of Froch. I don’t see Abraham winning a questionable decision in this fight. Froch will either get torpedoed by one of Abraham’s huge right hands or Froch will get dominated with power shots in the majority of the rounds and will lose by a clear cut decision.

Froch may have good power of his own, but he telegraphs his shots too much and I can’t see him being able to get through the guard of Abraham. However, I do see Froch getting really hammered by Abraham once the German-based Armenian starts to unload with his offensive artillery. Once that happen, I think Froch will quickly get staggered and then knocked out. Froch will later come to and wonder what hit him. The good thing is Froch will realize that he really nothing to fear at all about losing a decision to Abraham.
