Should Pacquiao give in on the blood testing and give Mayweather the bigger purse split?

Image: Should Pacquiao give in on the blood testing and give Mayweather the bigger purse split?By Chris Williams: With little time left and probably all the money he needs in the world, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is pretty much working only for his legacy at this point in his career. There’s no real need for money anymore and any bit of extra money that he’ll get in his final fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto or Yuri Foreman would be like an extra topping. With that said, why doesn’t Pacquiao just give in on the random blood testing that Mayweather wants and also let him have the bigger purse split to make sure the fight gets made.

If Pacquiao really wants to get this fight made, enhance his legacy and move on with his political career, there’s really no better way to do that then to give Mayweather the bigger purse split and agree to whatever random blood testing that he asks for. Right now, Mayweather hasn’t really said anything, as far as I know. But once he does start speaking up about what different terms he wants, if any, for the negotiations, then I’m hoping Pacquiao takes the high road and gives in enough to make the fight happen.

Of course, if Mayweather is asking for something outrageous like 70-30 purse split, then I can understand why Pacquiao wouldn’t want to fight him. However, I think 55-45 or 52-48 is perfectly acceptable. Mayweather has gotten the better pay per view numbers recently and is still unbeaten. You can’t really argue with that. Mayweather has yet to taste defeat, whereas Pacquiao was beaten as early as five years ago.

This is why it would be good for Pacquiao to go the extra year, give Mayweather what he wants as long as it’s reasonable, to get this fight signed and underway. All this posturing and stuff is a big waste of time and I think Pacquiao has better things to do than this. Sure, Pacquiao can walk away from this fight, but he would make a lot less money to fight Margarito, Foreman or Cotto than he would with Mayweather. And his fans would always ask him why the Mayweather fight couldn’t get made. Again, I’m not saying that Pacquiao should agree to sign a fight with Mayweather if he’s not being reasonable but if it’s fairly close to the 50-50 purse split, then I say go for it to make the fight happen.
