Mayweather, Most Skilled Boxer of all time

By Daniel Ellis: Floyd Mayweather Jr. will never miss an opportunity to tell the world that he is the greatest of all time. Some will argue this and some will agree with him. I my opinion he is the best skilled fighter boxing as ever seen. I am not trying to take any credit from the past greats, such as Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, or Pernell Whitaker, or any of the other greats that boxing has seen in the ring. Some boxers have certain skills that they are better at and apply more to in there fights than others, which led them to their greatness in the ring, such as speed, heart, great defense, fast hands, power, or just the ability to pressure and break down their opponents. Mayweather has everything it takes to beat an opponent no matter what skill they posses, he has them all.

Mayweather has beaten opponents that are believed to be heavy handed and great punchers, such as Diego Corrales, Ricky Hatton, and Shane Mosley. At the time these boxers were known as great punchers that have the ability to knock out who ever stood in their way. Corrales was a hard hitting fighter who has knocked out many of his opponents. Hatton was a brawler who forced Mayweather to stand in there and fight him, Mayweather ended up winning the fight by TKO, which many believed he had no chance of doing. Mosley is known as a fighter who has speed, power, and is not scared to mix it up with any opponent, many thought that Mayweather was going to run and pot shot Mosley in their fight on May 1, but he did the exact opposite. He brought the fight to Mosley and ended up beating him at his own game of pressuring opponents using his speed, power and accurate punches. He has beaten brawlers and punchers at their own game. Mayweather chooses not to mix it up with a lot of his opponents that does not mean he cannot.

Everyone knows that Mayweather has great defensive abilities that open up his opponents and frustrate them. He seems to concentrate more on this defensive style more than anything else during his fights. Can you blame him? It has gotten him 41 wins and leaving him barley touched by his opponents. Many people believe this style is boring and shows that he is scared to mix it up with opponents, but why mix it up when you do not have to? He wins fights easily using this defensive style and it leaves him not taking much punishment. Fighters who take a lot on punishment in the ring are not as sharp of a fighter in the ladder years of their career as they were at the beginning. This is why at the age of 33 Mayweather is just as good as he once was. Along with his great defensive style,he has speed that not anyone who has faced him has been able to handle. He has displayed his speed in every one of his fights, but the one that stand out the most is him picking apart Zab Judah with his unbreakable defense and his unbelieve speed. Judah, at the time of their fight, was known as an extremely fast fighter, but over the course of the fight Mayweathers speed and defense showed over his, caused Mayweather to come out with the win.

Mayweather might not have as much punching power as people would like to see, but he certainly has enough to keep his opponents from pressuring him. In his most recent fight with Mosley, after getting hit with solid punches from Mayweather, he seemed to be scared to mix it up with him. He would lunge in with his head down throwing wild punches hoping to catch Mayweather with a lucky one. Same with De La Hoya, he put lots of pressure on him at the beginning of the fight, but when Mayweather landed a few solid punches it slowed his attack down. People under estimate Mayweather’s power because he does not have a lot of knockouts, but it seems to me like the fighters in the ring with him do not like to mix it up after getting hit with a few solid punches.

Mayweather is a pure boxer with many other skills that when needed he will apply and take the win over his opponent. Some boxing fans will agree that Mayweather is the greatest of all time and some will disagree. He might not be the best boxer of all time, but he is the most skilled boxer of all time. When looking about boxing history it is hard to find anyone with as much skill in every aspect of the game as him. He has everything is takes to beat any kind of opponent, weather they have speed, power, heart, endurance, or any other skills boxer posses. Mayweather is the most skilled fighter to every step into the ring.
