By Sean McDaniel: Former World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) needs more time for his cuts to heal and won’t be able to fight Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in their previously scheduled stage 3 Super Six bout in August, according to thisnottingham. Instead, the Abraham vs. Froch fight will be pushed back one month to September in order for Froch’s cuts to heal, eye injury and ear problem to heal. Froch, 32, was defeated by Mikkel Kessler by a 12 round unanimous decision on April 24th in Denmark.

The defeat left a bad taste in Froch’s mouth and he’s focused on trying to continue in the tournament by beating Abraham. Froch needs a win to get to the semi finals of the tourney where he hopes to win back his WBC title and capture the WBA title as well, which is currently held by Andre Ward. The venue for the Abraham-Froch fight is still up in the air at this time. Abraham and his promotional company Sauerland want the fight to take place in either Germany or Switzerland, whereas Froch and his promoter Mick Hennessey are hoping to put the fight in a football stadium in Froch’s home city of Nottingham.

Froch is 1-0 while fighting in Nottingham in the Super Six tournament and he’d obviously like to continue along those lines. Froch had problems with Kessler’s speed in his last night. He won’t have as much problem with Abraham, who doesn’t have quite as good hand speed and work rate as Kessler. He does have a lot of power in each hand and unless Froch fixes his leaky defense, he could take a lot of punishment in that fight. Froch has a long ways to go before he gets to the final. He had major problems in his first fight of the Super Six tournament against Andre Dirrell in matching his hand speed. Froch’s problems continued in the Kessler bout. He’s going to have to figure out a way to protect himself because he’s taking too much punishment in his fights.
