Does Carl Froch needs a re think?

Image: Does Carl Froch needs a re think?By Neil Linners: Carl Froch has power and a better than average chin. He blew away all comers on the domestic scene and gave a great account of himself against Jean Pascal to capture the WBC title belt. The real test however, was always going to be the step up in class after he won the title.

I like Carl. His attitude and swagger irritates some, but I think that you have to be cocksure to be a top level fighter. I must though, agree with the general consensus that he got lucky in his first two defences and was shown up against Kessler most recently.

At the highest level, Froch has shown that his hand speed, that previously looked perfectly fine and his low guard with reliance on reflex really doesn’t cut the mustard.

I want Froch to go back to the drawing board and re asses. Great fighters have the ability to change styles during a fight, but even the mere ‘good’ can adapt outside the ring over time.

Froch really needs to look at his balls out approach ahead of his meeting with Abraham, who’s peekaboo style could cause serious problems.

Carl has struggled to land solid shots over 12 rounds in his last 3 bouts, and against the notoriously tight defence of Abraham, it’s my fear that he will come a cropper once more.

The question is whether Froch is humble enough to admit to himself that he needs to re evaluate?

I would love to see him win this tournament and part unify the division, but at present it seems unlikely.

Andre Ward is looking very strong coming into his bout with Allan Green, and I think is the man to beat.
That said, unless a change is made, i fear Carl will not be around to contest this in it’s final stages.
