Image: Prediction: Froch will give in and fight Abraham in GermanyBy William Mackay: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch has been saying that he won’t have any part of fighting Arthur Abraham in Germany, and is insisting on the fight taking place in Nottingham, England. But I expect for Froch to come around eventually when he realizes what he stands to lose by not agreeing to make the fight there.

Sauerland Events, the promotional company that backs Abraham, will be meeting with Froch’s promoter Mick Hennessy to try and work out a deal with the fight possibly taking place in a neutral country. I don’t see that happening. No way. There won’t be enough interest in a fight taking place in an alternate country, and besides that, Froch wouldn’t likely get a huge crowd that would show if the fight takes place somewhere like Switzerland or Italy.

Maybe if took place in Ireland, Froch would draw some fans, but I don’t see that happening. But if Froch goes ahead and pulls out of the Super Six tournament or continues with his request of asking for 1 million pounds to fight in Germany, then I see him wasting his time. They’re probably not going to accommodate Froch’s wishes in either case – neither giving him the money he wants or allowing the fight to take place in the UK.

But if Froch walks out of the this tourney, he’s only to be shooting himself in the foot. His WBC title now belongs to Mikkel Kessler after he beat Froch by a 12 round decision last Saturday night. So if Froch wants that title back like he says he does, the quickest way of getting it back is by staying in the Super Six tournament, beating Abraham, and then getting into the semi finals. I don’t know that Kessler will make it into the semi finals, though, because he has a final bout in the group stage fights against Allan Green.

That might be a tough fight for Kessler, but it’s one that is certainly winnable for him compared to a fight against Andre Ward, who he already lost to in his first fight in the Super Six tournament. Froch needs to stay in the tournament to get a shot at winning the WBC title back. Also, the WBA title in the tournament and is currently in the hands of Ward. Froch is been crowing about wanting to unify the super middleweight titles.

What better way to do that then by staying in the tournament, beating Abraham, Kessler, Andre Ward and possibly Green and Andre Dirrell. He already beat Dirrell once, but the outcome was tainted because of the controversial 12 round split decision that Froch got for the fight. If Froch stays in the tournament, he’ll possibly get a rematch with Dirrell and will get the opportunity that the win wasn’t just a fluke thing based on the whim of the judges.
