Image: Froch: "Mikkel Kessler doesn't have what it takes to knock me out. No one has"By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-0, 20 KO’s) doesn’t think it’s possible for his opponent tonight Mikkel Kessler (42-2, 32 KO’s) to stop him when they meet at the MCH Messecenter Herning, in Herning, Denmark. Even though Froch was staggered in the 10th round in his last fight against Andre Dirrell last October, Froch doesn’t think it’s possible to be knocked by Kessler, saying “Mikkel Kessler doesn’t have what it takes to knock me out. No one has. This chin is made of granite.” Let’s hope so for Froch’s sake.

I wouldn’t believe that in looking at how Froch was staggered twice by Dirrell in the 10th round. I don’t know what would have happened if Dirrell had kept him hitting Froch once he had him hurt. Dirrell loaded up with a series of big left hands after staggering Froch, but missed with the shots in his haste to take Froch out. Froch was also dropped in the 4th round in his fight against Jermain Taylor last year on April 24th. It’s been exactly a year since Taylor had Froch on his backside, looking up at the referee while he gave him the count. Will we be seeing the same thing happen tonight against Kessler.

Oh, it would be bad to see Froch getting dropped and taken out. It would at least show that Froch isn’t as invincible as he thought he was. Contrary to what Froch is saying, I think Kessler can knock him out tonight. Kessler has excellent power, a good knockout percentage, and a lot of different tools to use in his toolbox. Kessler isn’t just a right hand puncher like Froch. Kessler has a big right hand, a hard left hook and can throw crushing uppercuts with either hand. Kessler is a fighter who has equal power in both hands and is someone that can score a knockout even when out of position. I hope Froch hasn’t underestimated Kessler, because I’d really hate to see Froch take a beating in the ring tonight and wind up knocked out for his troubles.
