Image: Froch having second thoughts about dropping out of Super Six tournament – NewsBy William Mackay: Just as I thought, former World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) is having second thoughts about dropping out of the Super Six tournament following a 12 round unanimous decision loss last Saturday night to Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32 KO’s) in Herning, Denmark. Following the fight, which the 32-year-old Froch feels that he won, he learned that his next stage 3 Super Six bout will take place in his competitor Arthur Abraham’s home city of Berlin, Germany, instead of Froch’s city of Nottingham, England.

As soon as Froch found out about this, he said “I won’t be fighting in Germany; it’s as simple as that.” Froch later said that he would fight in Germany if he’s given 1 million quid for the fight. Since the likelihood of that happening was almost nonexistent, some people figured that Froch would go ahead and pull out of the tourney if he wasn’t given his way by having the fight take place in Nottingham. However, Abraham’s promoter, Wilfried Sauerland, made a statement yesterday, saying “I would prefer it to be on neutral territory.”

That’s not all Wilfried said, as he also mentioned that there had not been any agreement – neither written or verbal – about the Froch-Abraham fight taking place in Nottingham. Froch had this to say in an article at the Morningstaronline today “It was been pretty much agreed that we would fight in a neutral venue. The last thing I want to do is prepare and train for a fight in Germany with the same promoter and have the same problems happening potentially, but I don’t think quitting is an option.” There it is. Froch has changed his mind about quitting the Super Six tourney.

I never figured that Froch would ever pull out of the Super Six tourney, because it would make him look potentially bad to a lot of boxing fans. Froch might be seen as a poor loser and also like prima donna for pulling out. If things were done right, the venues for the fight would have been written down into the contract and not something that they weren’t clear on. Froch was saying that he and his promoter had been given a verbal agreement about the location of the stage 3 fight, but they should have checked on this to be sure about it.

If Froch left the Super Six tournament, he would have to wait at least a year for the tourney to end before he would get a shot at winning back his WBC title that he lost to Kessler. I don’t think will ever win the title back, but that’s one of his goals, along with capturing the other super middleweight titles. It all seems pretty remote to me, like a pipe dream, but if keeps him motivated it’s all good.
