Bunce thinks Huck is made for Maccarinelli

Image: Bunce thinks Huck is made for MaccarinelliBy Scott Gilfoid: You got to like Steve Bunce’s spirit. In an article at the BBC Sport, Bunce thinks that Enzo Maccarinelli should go after WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (28-1, 21 KO’s), saying “The fight to go for is German Marco Huck. He’s as game as they come, but absolutely basic, made for Enzo. The big money fight is to go to Germany, knock him out and become champion again. If that happens, who says fairy tales don’t exist?” Well, if you ask me, I think that’s a rotten idea and a good way for Maccarinelli to get knocked out again. Yeah, Huck looks basic as all heck, but there’s one problem – the dude can really punch.

Man, I don’t care if how clumsy he looks; Huck can really swat and for a fighter like Maccarinelli, who has been put down three times in the last seven fights with his only wins coming against second tier fighters, that’s not a good thing. I think if Maccarinelli goes after Huck next, we’ll be talking about Maccarinelli’s 4th knockout loss. But I like Bunce’s daring. He shows a lot of courage for a writer.

Too bad it’s not him that’s the one that actually has to go out and risk getting blasted out by Huck. I wouldn’t mind seeing Huck and Maccarinelli. No question about it, I’d love to see that fight, but I think it would be bad move on Maccarinelli’s part if he takes that fight. If he had a great chin, then it would be no problem. He’d beat Huck and probably be the second fighter to stop him, but to beat Huck, you got to be able to stand up to a lot of his massive shots all night long.

Thus far, I haven’t see Maccarinelli display an outside game that would enable him to protect his weak chin for 12 rounds. With wins against Krisztian Jaksi, Zoltan Czekus and Alexander Kotlobay in his last three fights, I don’t see Maccarinelli being ready for a fight against Huck at this point. I mean, I’ve never heard of any of those guys in my life, have you? I think it would be crazy to go from fights against those dudes into a fight against Huck.

But if that’s what they do, then I have a pretty good idea what the outcome will be and it probably won’t be pretty for Maccarinelli. If anyone is made to order, I see Maccarinelli made to order for Huck. I think Huck would give him tons of problems if they were to fight and I really can’t see the fight lasting more than four or five rounds, at best. As soon as Huck catches up to Maccarinelli, the fight will probably be over. I think it’s a risky fight, but if Maccarinelli is game for it, then by all means go for it. I’d be interested in seeing it for as long as it lasts.

I think Maccarinelli is perfect right where he is right now as the European Boxing Union cruiserweight champion. I think that’s a good title for him. I also think he would make a good Commonwealth and British cruiserweight champion, but that’s about as far as I see him going. There’s nothing wrong with those titles. Those are good quality straps to have and there’s no shame in having those titles in one’s possession, is there?
