By Sean McDaniel: Newly crowned European Boxing Union (EBU) heavyweight champion Audley Harrison could beat WBA heavyweight champion David Haye to a fight with one of the Klitschko brothers, according to news from ESPN. After beating Michael Sprott in an exciting 12th round stoppage in a sensational come from behind victory last Friday night, Harrison’s promoter Eddie Hearn reportedly spoke to the Klitschko brothers’ management about a fight with one of the Klitschko brothers for later in the year.
The brothers are up for the idea, in particular because of the PPV money that the fight would get given that it would likely be shown on Sky Sports. The fight could take place in December. This would be incredible news for Harrison, because his career was thought to be almost over before his fight with Sprott, and with his come from behind win on Friday night, Harrison’s career would be a like a dream come true.
What would be even stranger is if Harrison, who few people consider to be the best heavyweight in the UK, could beat Haye to getting a fight with the Klitschko brothers. The reason is because Haye could be facing a rematch with Nikolay Valuev, and that could get in the way of a fight with one of the Klitschko. Also, Haye, with his recent success, could be tough to set up a fight with now that he’s defended title once against John Ruiz. Harrison would likely be happy just to fight either of the Klitschkos and wouldn’t be as difficult to set up a fight with.
