When is Hatton going to get off his backside and get back in the ring?

Image: When is Hatton going to get off his backside and get back in the ring?By William Mackay: I’m officially sick of waiting for Ricky Hatton to get back in the ring. I’m all for a fighter trying to figure out whether he wants to continue fighting or now, but it seems to me that Hatton has already had enough time to make a decision on his career. It’s time for him to start fighting already. Hatton already said that he plans on making a comeback in June against a still to be determined opponent, so why is he still looking like a good year blimp.

I saw Hatton recently at one of his fighter’s bouts, and he looked huge like he hadn’t lost any weight what so ever. If I was to guess at Hatton’s weight, I’d say he was scaling 190 easy. I weigh 180, and Hatton made me look small in comparison.

I know Hatton has been good at taking off massive amounts of weight in the past before his fights, but it seems like Hatton has even more weight to take off than he usually does. Since he’s coming off a serious 2nd round knockout loss in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao, you would think that Hatton would understand how important it is to take off weight and get ready for his next fight.

But he looks huge right now. I can only imagine how hard it’s going to be for Hatton to burn through all that blubber to get into shape. Can you imagine having to take off 40 pounds or more and then go and fight? There’s no way Hatton is going to win his next fight unless he take another non-puncher like Paulie Malignaggi to come back against. Believe me, if Hatton fights anyone that’s halfway good, he’s going to lose and lose big.

The reason is he’s going to be too weak from having melted off all that blubber that Hatton has put on in the past nine months through eating and drinking excessively. Unless Hatton takes the weight off slowly, which I highly doubt, he’s going to get destroyed in his next fight. I don’t care if Hatton fights a small old guy like Juan Manuel Marquez; Hatton will still get beaten up and taken out.

The best thing that Hatton could have done was sock all the money that he’s made in the bank and lives like a poor person until he’s officially washed up as a fighter. I think having all that money has taken away Hatton’s ambition. He’s traveling all the time, wearing nice clothes and living the high life. No wonder he doesn’t want to get back in the ring and face the hard work involved with training and fighting.

I think the money that he’s made in his fights against Floyd Mayweather, Paulie Malignaggi, and Pacquiao has done more damage to Hatton than any eating, drinking or his knockout losses have. Some fighters stay motivated after becoming rich, but a lot of them seem to go downhill quickly because of all the things they can do with their new wealth.

If Hatton had to live like a poor person for the next three years, I think he could still accomplish a lot with his career. Of course, he’d have to have controls set in place to keep him away from food and drink, because those things are also a big part of Hatton’s problems.
