Image: Brave DeMarco forced to quit against knockout artist Valero - Round-By-RoundBy Peter Wells: Now we know that 2010 is kicking off with the knockout artist Edwin Valero carrying on his 100% knockout record. After 2 weeks ago where Yuriorkis Gamboa brilliantly destroyed Rogers Mtagwa in 2 rounds and Lopez stopped Steven Luevano in a much less exciting fight, now we are really getting into it now. This weekend has been far from poor, Friday night saw Glen Johnson destroy Yusuf Mack in 6 and last night also saw Tomasz Adamek take one step closer to a Heavyweight title shot.

But all that was pushed aside by the exciting and super powerful Venezuelan whom once again showed what damage he can cause. Two cuts over his right eye, one very nasty from an accidental elbow, Valero just didn’t stop coming forward, and easily took everything DeMarco had. Antonio looked like he could take the punishment early on, but it soon became clear he was no longer in the fight, and stopping the fight was the best option. At the end of round 8 he was asked whether he felt sick, but even though he looked in no fit state to carry on fighting, he went back out like a true warrior. Valero didn’t let him off the hook though, as he kept landing solid shots and DeMarco didn’t come out for the 10th.

Round 1: Valero goes on the attack straight away and catches DeMarco on the ropes, but Antonio is blocking most punches. Just halfway through the round Valero is cut under his right eye. A good combination by Valero has DeMarco in some trouble the left hand once again causing the most damage. A good solid jab at the end of the round by Antonio who also misses a big right and another jab on the bell. Replays show that the cut was caused by a firm jab from DeMarco.

Round 2: Antonio is caught against the ropes early and Valero fires some good shots. DeMarco looks confident and isn’t being affected by the punches coming from Valero. Antonio is not using his full height advantage and is being caught a lot. As Valero comes forward he is caught by an elbow from DeMarco and Antonio carries on firing until the referee breaks it up to check the cut on the forehead of Edwin Valero. It is a very nasty cut, but not in the worst position as the blood is rolling down the side of his face. It is a very bad cut, and lots of blood is spewing out, but none is going in his eye. The doctor allows the fight to continue and Edwin goes straight for DeMarco who is caught on the ropes and Valero fires away at will. Valero loses his mouth piece as the two fighter’s trade, but Valero gets the best shots. What a round, a little bit of blood runs into Valero’s nose as they put his gumsheild back in.

Round 3: The corner are now treating three cuts as there is another cuts just on Valero’s right eyelid. Valero looks comfortable this round but DeMarco doesn’t back to the ropes as much.

Round 4: DeMarco starts better and is landing well with the right hand, but the speed of Valero is still winning him most of the points. Valero stuns DeMarco with 3 big lefts in a row and has the challenger on the ropes. Valero seems in control of that round, landing with solid shots, while Antonio bides his time.

Round 5: At the end of the fourth two judges have it 39-36 Valero and the other has Edwin up 40-35 due to DeMarco having a point deducted for the elbow in round 2. Valero is still in control and doesn’t look like he’s tiring; DeMarco needs to up the pace now or never.

Round 6: Antonio total domination from Valero, he was hitting and moving and landing some great left hands, DeMarco shouldn’t be allowed to go much longer.

Round 7: DeMarco just isn’t doing anything now, even when Valero is standing still Antonio won’t go for it. Valero has DeMarco against the ropes and lands a three punch combo. Valero has him against the ropes again and is getting through with big shots now. Valero is beating him up and making him miss brilliantly; DeMarco is being humiliated out there in front of his home crowd. Antonio fantastic round for Valero, he’s looking like a true champion here.

Round 8: DeMarco just can’t stop those punches now; Valero is landing pretty much everything he throws. DeMarco is out of gas he can’t fire back and can’t stop Valero landing.

Round 9: DeMarco can’t keep his head up in his corner; I don’t know how his corner are allowing him to carry on in this state. All three judges have it 79-72 to Valero. Valero dominates again landing crisp shots and looking untouchable; DeMarco goes to his corner and decides to call it quits.

After the fight Valero said, “This was defiantly my best fight, the experience tells me I can’t keep going like I used to, that I have to pace myself to go beyond six rounds. The entire world is seeing a fighter that’s climbing. There is still a lot I have to learn, but I came here tonight to look spectacular infront of the Mexican crowd, and for the whole world to see”.

Well he looked magnificent tonight and all credit goes to DeMarco who was as brave as they come, but was totally outclassed and Valero can move on to bigger and better fights now; the world is his oyster.
