Image: Mayweather vs. Mosley, don`t count your chickens...By Dezzie Lightbulb: Due to the tragic loss of several members of his family in the earthquake that devastated his native Haiti, Andre Berto has pulled out of the much anticipated fight against Shane Mosley that had been scheduled for January 30th. Berto says he is “physically and mentally exhausted”. Our prayers, thoughts, and understanding go out to Andre in what can only be described as a hugely traumatic loss for him and his fellow countrymen. Mosley issued the following statement:

“I’m disappointed that the fight has been called off, but I understand that Andre is going through a very difficult time. My heart goes out to him, his family and the people of Haiti during the aftermath of this terrible tragedy. I’m sorry for the losses that Andre and all of the Haitian people are suffering. I have everyone in my prayers.”

The super fight that so many boxing fans have been eagerly anticipating for years, Mayweather vs. Mosley, has suddenly become possible. And it offers Mayweather a golden opportunity to totally vindicate himself in the face of his critics. If we can`t have Mayweather Pacquiao, Mayweather Mosley will do just nicely. By comparison Pacquiao Clottey is a cruelly faded match, and would certainly prove to be the less popular fight. PPV ratings would certainly reflect that, and both Mayweather and Mosley could look forward to the biggest paydays of their lives. More importantly, if Mayweather does `brave up` and face Mosley, it could never again be said that he is avoiding the real challenges. By accepting this fight Mayweather could really get one over on Pacquiao, and would find himself in a much stronger bargaining position. Unless of course he loses to Mosley! This is the real crux of the matter.

Mosley is probably the strongest, most dangerous welterweight today. If I were Mayweather and had to choose between Pacquiao and Mosley, I’d probably pick Pacquiao. Mosley has waited a very long time for a chance to shine. A fight with Mayweather would be the biggest chance he could get. He has all the talent, power, and experience to be seen as Mayweather`s biggest challenge. I honestly cannot see Mayweather winning this fight, which is why I simply cannot see the fight happening.

Golden Boy Productions have announced that they are negotiating the fight right now. I am certain that Mosley will accept just about any terms that Mayweather offers him. He would accept random blood testing, a huge ring, and a tiny proportion of the purse; anything, ANYTHING to get what he has wanted for so long. I feel that Mosley is so confident of the outcome that he will do everything in his power to make the fight happen. If these negotiations do not conclude with the fight, it is, and can only be, that Mayweather does not want it.

Please, please Floyd, take the fight, and prove me wrong. If you are who you say you are in boxing, now is the time to put your gloves where your mouth is.
