Lopez stops Luevano in 7

By Sam Gregory: In tonight’s main event on HBO’s Boxing After Dark undefeated Juan Manuel Lopez fought six and a half brutal rounds for his first fight in the featherweight division against Steven Luevano to capture the WBO featherweight title.

For the first two rounds of the fight both men came out using their jab early on; by the end of the second round Lopez landed a solid combination to the head of Luevano that got the crowd’s attention.

At the start of round three Lopez landed a solid left hook to the approval of the crowd, Luevano dug to the body of Lopez and landed a stiff uppercut to the body. In the last few seconds of the round Lopez threw a flurry of punches that probably got enough attention of the j9udges to carry the round.

After 3 rounds the unofficial scorecard had it 3 to nothing for Lopez

Round 4 mid way through the round Lopez landed a couple solid combinations; Lopez lands a solid right to the head; in the last few seconds of the round Lopez again threw a flurry of punches to the approval of the crowd

Round 5 Lopez lands a solid combination; Luevano was waiting for his chance to land his shot but Lopez had no intention of letting that happen being too quick and not giving his opponent a chance to counter.

Luevano stayed right with Lopez threw round six and seven until Lopez landed the solid shot that dropped Luevano hard enough for the referee to step in and call a halt to the bout at 44 seconds of round 7.Juan Manuel Lopez captured WBO featherweight title while improving his unbeaten record to 28-0 with 25 KO’s. Steven Luevano suffered his second defeat bring his record to 37-2 with 15 KO’s.
