Image: Boxing: The Next GenerationBy Martin Anderson: So who is going to be the next “great.” I mean Mayweather, Pacman and Mosley are maybe the only greats still fighting at the top level. But what happens when they’ve left who will carry the torch for the next generation?

Everybody has got a favourite fighter they don’t like seeing being beaten or fighting meaningless fights, even in defeat we still follow them. My fighters were the likes of Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and now Mayweather and Mosley but what next? those two are on the other side of the hill and won’t be fighting much longer, well here’s 5 prospects of mine in no particular order, I’ve seen most of their fights and of what I’ve seen I think they could be champions maybe even “greats”.

1. Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner – I have only seen a few of his fights but really like what i’ve seen, good defence great hand speed reminds me of a young Shane Mosley.

2. Hylon Williams Jr. – Fantastic amateur and it shows in his fights, ring generalship is outstanding has everything but lacks power.

3. Nathan Cleverley – This boy may not have been an olympian or had much coverage but he is going to be a star, now starting to add power making him a definite “can’t miss” world champion.

4. Daniel Jacobs/ Matt Korobov – I couldn’t decide here who was best so put both in. I personally think korobov may be better at the moment but Jacobs has time on his side. I know Korobov destroyed him in the amateurs who knows what will happen in the pros.

5. Yuriorkis Gamboa – One of the greatest amateurs ever. Gamboa has everything he can be just as successful as Pacman, I know people will talk about his chin but I think it will hold up well. Easily the fastest hands in boxing but he better make a move on fast.

Honourable mentions go to Abner Mares, Omar Henry, Kevin Mitchell and Frankie Gavin. I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions on who they think could be the next “great.” Thanks for reading my first article.
