Image: Haye thinks Froch will win Super Six tourney - NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye thinks that WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch will win the Super Six tournament. Haye previously fought alongside Froch during parts of their amateur days. It’s hard for me to agree with Haye’s belief that Froch will win the Super Six tourney or that he’ll even beat Abraham or Kessler. Not after seeing how Froch looked against American Andre Dirrell in their fight on October 17th.

Froch won the bout by a controversial 12 round split decision, but I think few will agree that he looked good in doing so. Since many people don’t see Dirrell as being the top fighter in the Super Six, it doesn’t look good that Froch had to struggle so badly against him and barely beat him while fighting in his home city of Nottingham in front of a pro Froch crowd. Like I’ve said before, I think Dirrell won the fight by an eight rounds to three margin with one round even. I’m not too impressed with Kessler after watching him get schooled for 11 rounds against American Andre Ward on November 21st, but I think Kessler has enough in the tank to beat Froch quite easily.

Kessler’s style is all wrong for Froch. I also don’t think too highly of Abraham. His low punch output hasn’t improved since moving up to super middleweight and, other than his 12th round knockout over Jermain Taylor on October 17th, I don’t think Abraham looked good in that fight. I see Abraham beating Froch because of his better power. He looked stronger than Froch, if Carl goes straight at Abraham instead of trying to box him, it will likely be an easy night for Abraham. Froch tends to go right after his opponents and not focus on boxing them. I can see why he would have a style like this, because many of his opponents have been over-matched and not strong enough to hurt him. Abraham is. I don’t see Froch winning anything, but it’s nice that his countryman Haye believes in him. I see Dirrell easily beating Froch in the U.S., and Ward dominating him as well, if they ever fight.

I agree that Froch is willing to fight any fighter on the planet. Haye is right about that, but I haven’t seen Haye show the same fearlessness that Froch has shown in picking his opponents and in fighting style.

Haye called out both Klitschko brothers, but in the case of Wladimir Klitschko, Haye suddenly came up lame weeks before the fight saying that he had injured his back. And with Vitali Klitschko, Haye pulled out of negotiations and fought WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev instead. Most boxing experts would agree that Valuev was the much easier target of the two. Haye may have been willing to fight some tough fighters in the cruiserweight division, but as of yet, I haven’t see him duplicate this same fearlessness as a heavyweight.

Thus far, Haye has fought the following opponents: Monte Barrett, Tomas Bonin, and Valuev. Those aren’t exactly the most dangerous fighters in the heavyweight division, are they? Additionally, I didn’t see the same fearless approach to his fight with Valuev than I did with Froch’s bouts with Jermain Taylor and Dirrell.

Froch, I agree, is a fearless fighter and doesn’t seem to care whether he gets hit hard or not. I think Froch is crazy to fight like this because he’s going to get hurt eventually. But as far as Haye goes, he looked like a timid rabbit to me in his fight with the light hitting Valuev and spent the better part of the fight running around the ring trying not to get hit by Valuev. Haye only threw 10 to 15 punches per round in that fight because he was so busy moving and trying not to get hit.
