Wonjongkam knocked Masuda down twice in the fight. The bout was stopped in the 6th after Wonjongkam nailed Masuda with two big left uppercuts to the head and then added a right uppercut that put Masuda down on the canvas.

Referee Brad Vocale then stopped the bout at 1:06 of the round. The fight was one big beat down for Masuda, because he didn’t have the power to compete with Wonjongkam and was beaten up in a pretty thorough slaughter.

In the opening round it was painfully clear that Masuda was in way over his head in this fight and didn’t have the tools needed to compete with the power punching Wonjongkam. Masuda moved around on the outside trying his best to stay away from Wonjongkam, but he was unable to stop him from moving in quickly and landing big left hands whenever he pleased.

Whether on the outside or the inside, Wonjongkam found it easy to land his shots against Masuda. It was all one way traffic in the round with Wonjongkam hitting Masuda with everything but the kitchen sink.

In the 2nd round, Wonjongkam stalked Masuda around the ring landing big punches to the head. Many of the punches knocked Masuda backwards, causing him to stumble and almost fall down. Late in the round, the southpaw Wonjongkam clobbered Masuda with a right-left combination that put him down for the first time in the fight.

Wonjongkam finished out the round strong, teeing off on Masuda with big left hands as Wonjongkam tried without luck to finish him in this round. Masuda might as well have quit right there because he had no chance and wasn’t throwing anything back at Wonjongkam.

In the 3rd round, Masuda came out trying to land some shots of his own. However, Wonjongkam easily ducked and picked off the shots from Masuda. Wonjongkam then continued to plaster Masuda with big shots for the remainder of the round.

Wonjongkam seemed to increase the pressure he was putting on Masuda in the 4th round, hitting him with increasingly harder shots that were knocking Masuda off balance on impact. Masuda desperately fought back but continued to take a lot of punishment. At the end of the round, Wonjongkam landed a huge right hand that knocked Masuda two feet across the ring causing him to turn his back on Wonjongkam.

In the 5th round, Wonjongkam closed the distance and fought most of the round at close range, which enabled Wonjongkam to land sharp uppercuts to the head and chopping punches. Masuda was limited to only a couple of weak punches in the round.

In the 6th, Wonjongkam stayed close to Masuda, hammering him with short uppercuts and powerful right hands to the head. After landing two left uppercuts followed by a big right uppercuts, Wonjongkam put Masuda down for the final time. The referee immediately stopped the bout and had to help a badly dazed Masuda back to his corner.

The victory for Wonjongkam, 32, puts him in a position for a 3rd fight against the current WBC flyweight champion Daisuke Naito, who Wonjongkam was beaten by in a 12 round decision in 2007 to lose his WBC title which he had held for six long years. In their second fight last year in March 2008, Naito and Wonjongkam fought to a 12 round draw.
