Pacquiao to Retire After October Bout – News

By Manuel Perez: According to Gmanews, Manny Pacquiao is planning on fighting only one more time in October against the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez or Floyd Mayweather or possibly Miguel Cotto and then retire and goes into politics. I suppose a lot of Pacquiao’s boxing fans will be in mourning after hearing this dreadful news, but look at this way: Pacquiao has an almost guaranteed beating coming to him when he fights Marquez, Mayweather or Cotto, so Pacquiao might as well retire anyway after this.

I mean what’s left for Pacquiao when he gets knocked out or beaten up by one of them? If you ask me, retirement is the only option for Pacquiao at that point. Now let’s be real about this. No way is Pacquiao going to be fighting Marquez again, even if Marquez does turn around and beat Mayweather in their July 18th bout at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas.

In that case, I see Pacquiao bypassing Marquez and going after the easier option of facing Cotto. Pacquiao knows how dangerous Marquez is because of his two fights with him in the past and won’t likely want to face having to face the talented Mexican for a third time.

Pacquiao fought to a draw in the first fight with Marquez in 2004, and then beat him by a 12-round split decision last year. However, many of the unbiased American boxing writers like me thought that Marquez should have been given the victory in both fights against Pacquiao.

I wonder who put the retirement idea in Pacquiao’s head. God, I hope it wasn’t his trainer Freddie Roach. He’s the one that gave Pacquiao the crazy advice to retire after only two more fights. Who knows? Maybe Roach was thinking that Pacquiao would be beaten in the near future and that’s why he came up with the two fight plan?

If Pacquiao is really a pound-for-pound star like so many boxing fans of his seem to think he is why on earth would Pacquiao be thinking of quitting after only one more fight? It sounds like a lunatic idea baked after a night of hard drinking.

Could it be that Pacquiao is now afraid of losing and that’s why he’s thinking about retiring? I have no problem with that. With Marquez, Mayweather and Cotto possibly on the agenda in the near future, it’s not hard to imagine why Pacquiao would be thinking about retiring. Those look like a bunch of losses to me for Pacquiao.

I have no idea why Pacquiao is even considering going into politics. What the heck is he going to do there? Frankly, I hope that never happens for his sake because he doesn’t have the background or education for the job and he would find himself in a horrible position if he wins.

He must not know what he’s getting himself in for if he wins. Oh well, hopefully he loses and is spared from having to deal with the headaches politics. I don’t expect any retirement of Pacquiao to last more than a few months at best.

Pacquiao will retire, run for political office, and of course lose, and then come out of retirement and resume his career, hopefully against Marquez or some other talented fighter like him.
