Hatton and Mayweather Sr. Having Problems? Who Cares!

hatton443388By Chris Williams: Supposedly there’s some problems between Ricky Hatton and his trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., at least that’s what Yahoo writer Kevin Iole is reporting. Iole mentions something to the effect that there are rumors that Hatton isn’t getting along with his trainer Mayweather Sr. and is possibly looking at being trained by Freddie Roach, the trainer for Manny Pacquiao. This is all pretty silly, because I honestly doubt that Hatton will stick out with Mayweather Sr. anyway after Ricky gets knocked out on Saturday night by Pacquiao.

Hatton didn’t react too well last time he got knocked out and quickly changed trainers, getting rid of his old trusty trainer Billy Graham, and selecting Mayweather Sr. I see the same thing happening when Hatton gets stretched by Pacquiao this Saturday night. Future events cast their shadows before.

There’s no way Hatton will keep Mayweather Sr. if Hatton gets knocked out, so he’ll likely be gone anyway. Sure, if Hatton wins, he’ll definitely not want to screw with success and move onto another trainer like Roach.

However, I see Hatton losing badly, which will likely make him look around for someone that has the magic elixir to make things right again. The fact is that it doesn’t matter who Hatton’s trained by, he’d still be getting knocked out on Saturday.

Believe me, you put Roach in there with Hatton as his trainer, and Hatton would be knocked out just as easy as Roach’s fighter Gerry Penalosa was against Juan Manuel Lopez last week. Roach won’t be out there taking the punches for Hatton in a fight with Pacquiao, and he won’t be able to bring Pacquiao to his knees with predictions and trash talking.

While it’s interesting to speculate about whether Hatton and his trainer Mayweather Sr. are having problems, it pretty much doesn’t matter a hill of beans in the large scheme of things. Hatton will go out, probably lose by a knockout, and then probably look to get a new trainer.

The same thing would likely happen if he were trained by Roach. The fact is when you put a fighter in with a better fighter than them, chances are they’re going to lose. That’s just the way it is. It doesn’t matter who the trainer is, because he’s not the one that’s taking the shots.

If Hatton were trained by Roach, he’d probably dump Roach in a second if Hatton went out and got destroyed by Roach. Of course, nothing would change under a new trainer, but at least the fighter would feel better about themselves.

I guarantee you if Hatton loses to Pacquiao on Saturday night and then turns around and signs up Roach as his trainer, Hatton would get knocked just as easily as he did under Mayweather Sr. That’s just the way it is. Talent rules the game, and it won’t matter who Hatton is trained by this Saturday. He’s going to lose and that’s just the way it is.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake of Hatton to change trainers at this point, because it takes awhile to learn things from a new trainer and Hatton’s hasn’t had any quality fights in order to learn anything since adding Mayweather Sr. to his team.

If Hatton dumps Mayweather Sr, when will it end? Hatton would then move into his next fight, possibly against Juan Manuel Marquez, and likely lose that one too. Does Hatton go out and dump Roach now and look for someone else to save him? It’s silly if you ask me.

At this rate, Hatton would need to change trainers every fight from now on until he retires, because he’s mentioned Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr. as two fighters he wants to fight next. Yeah, keep changing trainers, that will really help you, Hatton.
