fury53253By Nate Anderson: Undefeated British heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury (5-0, 5 KOs) made easy work of Matthew Ellis (20-7-1, 9 KOs) tonight, destroying in 48 seconds of the 1st round at the York Hall, in Bethnal Green, London. Ellis, 35, plodded straight into two wicked right hands from Fury 10 seconds into the 1st round and was immediately dropped like a big sack of potatoes.

Ellis got to his feet and was badly hurt but continued fighting. Ellis was then dropped again by another huge right hand shot from Fury. This time referee Dave Parris called a halt to the slaughter and stopped it at 0:48 of the 1st round. The crowd seemed shocked by the sudden ending because Fury had caught Ellis so quickly right off the bat in the fight.

It was thought that the journeyman Ellis might be able to give the 6’7″ Fury some competition, but it was clear that Fury had too much hand speed and power for Ellis to cope with. The way Fury looked tonight, he appears to be the best heavyweight in the UK, maybe even better than David Haye. There’s perhaps no better prospect in all of the heavyweight division at this time. Some would say that 6’8″ David Price (1-0, 1 KOs) might be as good or slightly better, but I would have a hard time making that argument after seeing Fury perform tonight.

Fury’s next fight will be on April 25th on the undercard of World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch vs. former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
