Froch Stops Taylor With 14 seconds Left In the Fight

froch77882Photo credit: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME – By Sam Gregory: The main event of the April 25th edition of Showtime boxing from the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut features the former middleweight champion and 2000 bronze medalist Jermain Taylor 28-2 with 17 KO’s who is taking on undefeated Carl Froch 24-0 with 19 KO’s in a scheduled 12 round super middleweight bout for Froch’s WBC super middleweight title . The challenger, Jermain Taylor earned this shot by dominating Jeff Lacy last November.

Round one started with Taylor landing a right hand to Froch’s chin. Taylor did establish his jab mid way through the round. Froch landed a big right hand with about 30 seconds left in the round. Taylor finished by landing a short left hook.

Round 2 Taylor snapping his jab early in the round. Froch holds his left hand low and shots it out but usually countered by Taylor’s overhand right. Froch not landing his jab but tries the uppercut that Taylor blocks. They mix it up in the last couple seconds of the round; Taylor lands big right hand.

Round three Froch clinches; Taylor punches out. Froch really doesn’t have much of a rhythm and Taylor lands his jab at will; Taylor lands a solid right hand and the crowd approves. Taylor has Froch hurt on the ropes and down for the first time in his career. Froch holds on for the last few seconds of the round. Taylor landed some solid rights but doesn’t finish him.

Round four Froch starts using his jab. Froch throws a right uppercut, countered by Taylor with a strong jab. Taylor’s defense is excellent; Taylor lands 3 or 4 jabs to ever 1 of Froch’s. Froch blocks an uppercut by Taylor.

Round five Froch misses with his jab than goes to the body of Taylor but gets hit with big shots by Taylor. Taylor doubles up on his jab and lands it at will. Taylor lands nice left hook. Taylor finishes strong landing solid right hands.

Round six Froch throws his jab but gets countered by Taylor who is busier mid way. Froch lands a solid right that backs up Taylor. Froch is having his best round; throws his jab, Taylor counters with over hand rights. Froch lands a left hook and blocks Taylor’s jab. Good round for Froch.

Round seven both men feeling out with their jabs; Froch throws combination but it’s blocked by Taylor. Taylor lands stiff jab that backs up Froch; than Taylor lands left hook that knocks Froch off balance. Froch tries to rally but Taylor lands better shots and blocks Froch’s punches.

Round eight Froch starts landing his right hand; Taylor stubbles but gets on his toes and throws his jab. Taylor lands nice left hook, Taylor rallies at the end of the round to steal the round. Taylor landed a monstrous uppercut that rocked Froch.

Round nine the pace has slowed; Taylor lands a solid jab and a left right combination. Froch follows Taylor to the ropes and tries to land some body shots that Taylor blocks.

Taylor is well ahead on press row cards.

Round ten Froch throws a lopping right hand, it scored as he backs Taylor up; Froch is landing more jabs this round. Taylor lands solid right, Froch throws a right that land. Taylor lands left hook; Froch has an overall pretty good round.

Round eleven Froch is opposing his will; lands a right hand. Blood coming out of Taylor’s nose; he lands a big combination; Froch lands big uppercut. The fight is back and forth; Taylor throws a right and grabs Froch, they punch out, very even round. Froch might have won the round with early big right hand.

Round 12 this could decide the fight. Taylor throws crisp jab; Froch counters and backs him up. Taylor on the ropes and hurt Froch is pounding Taylor on the ropes; Taylor staggering but holding on. Taylor is down, he beats the count but in trouble; Taylor stays up taking monster shots but Froch stops Taylor at 2:46 of the twelfth round.

Froch improves his undefeated record to 25 wins, no loses with 20 KO’s. Taylor falls to 28-3; this is the second time Taylor was stopped.
