Hopkins Bigger Legend Than Calzaghe?

cal4524545431By Michael Allan: You will be thinking how this is possible after in April 2008 Joe Calzaghe beat Bernard Hopkins on a split decision. Well there are many reasons behind it in fact. Calzaghe ended his career undefeated with 46 wins, but really even a big boxing fan like myself would say that Calzaghe only fought around 4 or 5 big names out of his 46 fights. Hopkins, Jones, Kessler, Lacy and Eubank they are the only real big names that he has faced.

On the other hand out of Hopkins 54 fights his list of notable fighters is much longer. Calzaghe, Pavlik, Jones, Glen Johnson, De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Winky Wright, Jermain Taylor, Tarver. Also Hopkins is now looking likely that he will step up and face the cruiserweight king Tomasz Adamek.

From starting as a middleweight and now heading to cruiserweight shows a true legend and great boxer and in my opinion Bernard Hopkins is one of the best boxers ever to grace the ring.

Now that night when Hopkins and Calzaghe fought it ended very closely with many actually scoring the bout in Hopkins favor. Now a true champion would they not agree it was close and agree to a rematch? Well in Calzaghe’s case that was not how it went. Calzaghe rejected a rematch and claimed he does not do rematches. Well in my book a great boxer is one that will take on any challenge that is worth it.

I will tell you now that can you really disagree that there should of been a rematch? The first fight was so close, so why not have a rematch. It seems the sensible thing to do but to be honest after I watched Hopkins destroy Pavlik, I think that was when Calzaghe sat down and thought i would lose a rematch to that guy and you know what?

I am sure that Hopkins would do the business over Calzaghe and pretty comfortably. I am Scottish and will admit to being a big fan of Bernard Hopkins. I would love this fight to happen and so would so many people. Come on Calzaghe come and take Hopkins on and let’s see if you should go down as a legend!
