Hearns hasn’t been active in three years since stopping a fighter by the name of Shannon Landberg in the 10th round in 2006. Before that, Hearns hadn’t fought since 2005 against John Long.

That fight was a comeback for Hearns, who was making his return at the time after having been out of the sport for five long years. In essence, Hearns has fought only three times in the past nine years. Hearns is hoping that his old trainer Emanuel Steward will be in his corner for Hearns’ last fight but as of now, it’s unknown whether Steward will do that.

Hearns has his best years in the 80s, at which time he fought great fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran.

Unless Hearns finds an easy opponent, it’s best that he not make a comeback at this late stage of his life. He looked bad in his last fight against Landberg, getting rocked at one point in the fight against an opponent that he would have likely knocked out in the 1st round earlier in his career. He doesn’t need to fight after having made a lot of money in his many fights in his career, so he probably doesn’t need to take any additional risks when there’s nothing left to prove. A victory over whoever he fights against will prove little to his legacy, because that’s already set in place.
