Botha Defeats Hoffmann

botha11By Erik Schmidt: Looking old, slow and fat, former heavyweight contender Francois Botha (47-4-2, 28 KOs) defeated 6’7″ German heavyweight Timo Hoffmann (38-7-1, 22 KOs) by a 12-round split decision on Friday night to defend his little known World Boxing Foundation heavyweight title at the Bordelandhalle, in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 117-110 and 114-113 for Botha and 114-113 for Hoffmann.

The South African Botha, now 40-years-old, is making his third fight since returning to boxing after a five year layoff between 2002-2007, and is hoping to become a factor in the heavyweight division.

Dimitrenko Stops Hoffmann

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Alexander Dimitrenko (27-0, 17 KOs) stopped German Timo Hoffmann (36-6-1, 20 KOs) in the 12th round to hold onto his World Boxing Organization Inter-Continental heavyweight title tonight at Bordelandhalle, in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. Both fighters were knocked down in the bout, with Hoffmann, 33, being knocked down twice in the 4th and twice in the 12th round, and Dimitrenko being dropped in the 5th round. Along the way, both fighters took turns attacking each other with fierce exchanges, and badly swelling up each other’s faces.
