Canelo’s brother Ramon Alvarez defeats Omar Chavez

alvarezBy Dan Ambrose: Junior middleweight Ramon Alvarez (20-4-2, 12 KOs), one of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s older brothers, easily defeated #5 WBO Omar Chavez (32-3-1, 22 KOs) by a 10 round unanimous decision last Saturday night at the Palenque de la Feria, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico. Omar Chavez is the son of boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez.

The final judges’ scores were 96-94, 96-94 and 98-92. The 98-92 score was by far the most accurate score of the three judges because it was a really one-sided fight from start to finish with the 28-year-old Alvarez dominating the lanky and skinny Chavez.

Omar Chavez defeats Ventry

By Jim Dower: Unbeaten light welterweight prospect Omar Chavez (18-0-1, 13 KO’s) had to battle hard to defeat journeyman James Ventry (7-10-1, 4 KO’s) by a six round unanimous decision on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The final judges’ scores were 59-54, 58-55 and 58-55. Chavez, 19, the son of former boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez, dropped the 37-year-old Ventry in the 1st round.

Chavez Brothers: Is Omar The Better Prospect Than Julio?

By Chris Thomas: After watching last Saturday’s bouts of the two Chavez brothers, Omar Chavez (6-0, 5 KOs) and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., both sons of the famous Mexican boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez, I’m ready to pronounce that the younger brother, 18 year-old Omar, is already the better fighter of the two sons. Although Chavez Jr. (35-0-1, 28 KOs), an unbeaten light middleweight, has received a huge amount of attention in the media due to his earlier start than this younger brother Omar, he has been less than impressive in his last two outings, wins over Ray Sanchez and most recently, an 8th round stoppage win over Jose Celaya last Saturday night.
