Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Lopez – Official weights

lopez

By Eric Baldwin: Former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (34-5, 31 KOs) weighed in on Friday for his fight against WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. (24-6-1, 19 KOs) for their fight on pay-per-view this Saturday night at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 33-year-old Lopez weighed in at 128.6lbs. His opponent 32-year-old Vasquez weighed in at 129lbs.

This is going to be a good fight to see which of the two fighters has anything left in the tank at this point in their careers. Judging by the many losses the two fighters have faced in the last tail end of their careers, I’d say that neither can do much. Vasquez Jr. has lost three out of his last four fights, and five out of his last eight fights.

This Saturday night’s grudge match between Puerto Rican former world champions Wilfredo “Papito” Vázquez, Jr and Juan Manuel “JuanMa” López is no hype job. Plain and simple, they really dislike each other immensely and both have predicted knockouts in their 12-round Special Attraction showdown, contested at a 129-pound catch-weight, which will air live on pay per view from Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“There is super real animosity,” Vázquez confirmed. “I cannot stand him; he repulses me. He has always undervalued and disparaged me. He’s never given me my proper place. This is the first time in my career that I make a prediction: I will knock him out!”

Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. on October 8

lopez4534

By Dan Ambrose: Juan Manuel Lopez and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. will be facing each other two months from now on October 8th in a scheduled 10 round bout in the featherweight division at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is an interesting fight between two former world champions that have seen better days in their careers.

The 33-year-old Lopez (34-5, 31 KOs) hasn’t fought in almost two years since his 2nd round knockout defeat to Jesus Cuellar in September 2014. For Lopez that was his second straight defeat and his third loss in his last four fights.

Lopez’s career started going downhill dramatically three years before that when he was beaten by Orlando Salido by an 8th round knockout in April 2011. Lopez lost to Salido in the rematch in getting stopped in the 10th round.

Jesus Andres Cuellar destroys Juan Manuel Lopez

lopezBy Dan Ambrose: Boxing fans may have seen the end of Juan Manuel Lopez’s career last Thursday night with him getting stopped in the 2nd round #1 WBA Jesus Andres Cuellar (25-1, 19 KOs) in a fight for the nterim WBA World featherweight title at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. All the A-side fighters on this card won their fights, and there was zero drama. Each fight was so one-sided that it wasn’t even interesting.

Cuellar hurt Lopez with a left to the head after cornering him. Once he had Lopez hurt, Cuellar flurried on him until Lopez dropped face first on the canvas for a knockout. There was no doubt about it. The fight was halted and Lopez couldn’t complain this time like he’d complained after his losses to Orlando Salido.

Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar this Thursday for WBA interim 126lb title

lopez444By Dan Ambrose: 31-year-old former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (34-4, 31 KOs) will be facing #1 WBA Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar (24-1, 18 KOs) in a crucial fight for Lopez for the interim WBA World featherweight title this Thursday, September 11th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

With Juanma Lopez having lost 2 out of his last three fights and not ranked currently in the top 15 by any of the boxing organizations, you can say that he doesn’t deserve to be fighting for the interim WBA title at featherweight unless the World Boxing Association has lowered it’s standards for the type of fighters that get shots at their interim belts.
