eubank55555By Kevin Brown: This Saturday sees Chris Eubank Jr. (18-1) return to the ring against WBA interim champion Dmitry Chudinov (14-0-2). This will be Eubanks first fight since his first career defeat against unbeaten Billy Joe Saunders last time out.

The defeat was a close call and arguably the correct decision! However what was impressive was how Eubank finished the fight. There were moments from round 7 onwards where you were just waiting for Saunders to hit the floor but Saunders managed to stay on his feet and avoid the barrage of uppercuts that Eubank was throwing. Instead of taking an easy fight to regain his confidence like many would Eubank has chosen to fight a live contender so he is taking a big risk. the reward if he gets the win could see him jump into the top 10 middleweight rankings and on the brink of a World title shot.

To achieve his dreams he will need to make serious adjustments from his last fight, Eubank can’t afford to start as slowly as he did. It was clear to see that he underestimated Saunders punch resistance, Eubank thought he could knock Saunders out with a single punch but he found out to his detriment that as you step up in class, the opposition can take more punishment and are harder to hit.

Some people think that Chris Eubank Sr. had a negative impact in the corner, however what you have to appreciate is, Eubank Sr. Is the person who has effectively trained his son long before he joined the professional ranks and his antics in the corner only add to the mystery around his sons talents and how far he can go.

This may be the fight that the real Eubank jr announces his name in the middleweight division and not before time as the contenders appear to have dried up recently since the emergence of Gennady Golovkin. There is quality in the division with the likes of GGG, Cotto, Quillen, however since the latter two seem to refuse to take on a dangerous fight and are in the business more for the money rather than love for the sport, it could be Eubank that is left to challenge GGG at the end of the year. Eubank Sr has already stated that he believes his son can beat Golovkin already. Whether or not that is true or not remains to be seen, but atleast for now there is new talent coming through to challenge at the top to keep the division interesting.
