Next opponent for Mayweather?

floyd6002By BR:  Tis the season to wait for the oh so glorious Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr on his decision on his next opponent.

To many it is enjoyable due to the constant taunting and jokes that we can produce until the unveiling. But for others it a frustrating wait, while also acknowledging he is out of reputable opponent. So with the slim pickings of opponents for Mayweather, every fights becomes harder and harder to produce.

The sudden emergence of Saul “Canelo” vs. Miguel Cotto, is also an indicator that Mayweather must chose wisely because the stakes have been raised. For many it would be simple to compare pay-per-view numbers of Canelo and Cotto previous fights, but for one to think the mix of a Hispanic Holiday and a old “Mexican vs. Puerto Rican” rivalry fight won’t sell is missing the point. The only problem that exist is Mayweather is more of a household name, who draws boxing and non-boxing fans regardless if he were to fight a D level fighter. The fact that remains is the date is based on Mayweather’s opponent.

After a September Mayweather fight, he takes the longest break from the square ring than his May date. This has lead to a “shakeup” in his camp and distraction in promotional company. Also adding salt to the wound, he is left without a solid opponent, not a solid opponent but a fighter that could be sold to the public. We all know the biggest name is Manny Pacquiao, but both fighter clearly are not interested in the fight anymore, common sense would reason they are financial well and just use each others names in the past years to boost there fights. Many would throw names such as Amir Khan, who is obsessed with the fight so much, it has become a complete turn off. He seem to have lost the basis of building his legacy rather than trying to claim it through Mayweather.

To conclude, there is a good amount of competition in the welterweight division for Mayweather, one which a avid boxing fan would enjoy. But due to Mayweather looking for marketable and publicly known boxers with big followings, there are not any opponents out there for the so-called “The Best Ever”. Expect Pacquiao but that fight probably would not happened if both fighters were offered a TRILLION DOLLARS EACH, because Floyd would ask for 2 more trillion and Manny would say ask my promoter, where Arum would say he wants a stadium in Pluto.
