DeGale will fail Froch test, says McCrory

degale45By Scott Gilfoid: Sky Sports commentator Glenn McCrory believes #1 IBF James DeGale (19-1, 13 KOs) will fail the test next January against IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) if he winds up getting selected by the 37-year-old Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn for the fight.

DeGale badly wants to fight Froch because he believes he’s got the talent to beat the aging champion. Froch isn’t sure whether he’ll fight DeGale or not, as he’s not motivated for the fight. He could change his mind though if DeGale impresses next month against #10 WBC Marco Antonio Periban on November 22nd.

“I like DeGale, especially the way he called out Froch last week, and that win over Brandon Gonzales at Wembley was impressive, but I just think, right now, that Froch is still top of the class in Britain,” McCrory said to Skysports.com.

Well, there’s no doubt that Froch is the No.1 super middleweight in Britain, but definitely not the No.1 in the world. There are a few other guys that you have to rank above Froch, and until he proves that he can beat them without controversy you can’t rank Froch No.1 in the world.
DeGale might actually have enough talent to beat Froch.

He’s got the style that gives Froch fits. We already saw what the talented Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward did to Froch when they fought him. I’m not putting DeGale in those fighter’s class, but he does move a lot, and he makes his opposition look bad.

DeGale doesn’t hang on the ropes nearly as much as he used to, and that definitely has helped his fighting style in a huge way. As long as DeGale stays off the ropes, you have to give him a good chance of beating Froch.

While Froch has said that he could get motivated for the DeGale fight if he looks good against Periban, I believe it to be the opposite. If DeGale looks good against Periban, I see Froch not taking the fight with him. If he DeGale looks so-so against him, then I see Froch agreeing to take the fight. If DeGale looks terrible then obviously Froch won’t fight him because he likely won’t want to be seen fighting him after that.

“Not many people are knocking on the door trying to take Carl on and while DeGale might do his homework I just can’t see him passing the test,” McCrory said.

What is McCrory talking about in saying not too many people are knocking on Froch’s door? Ward and the Dirrell brothers both want to fight Froch like mad. They’ve been wanting to fight Froch for ages now. I’m sure there’s a massive amount of other super middleweights that would jump at the chance to fight Froch.
