The True Blueprint to Defeat Mayweather 2nd opinion Part One

floyd93By Danny Esch: This past week there was an article posted titled “The true blueprint to defeat Mayweather” which I read and I cannot say anything negative about because that writer posted his opinion. The great thing about fans whether you are casual or hardcore each of us sees things differently and each of us can point out things others have missed or over looked in regards to our own opinions.

Although I do agree with many of the points that were made in the article “The true blueprint to defeat Mayweather” I see something else that is the main factor that should be focused on by the trainers of Mayweather’s remaining last two opponents’. I am going to give you my idea/opinion on what I think is the “true” blueprint and the two fighters today who I believe can possibly pull it off and lastly I am going to throw you guys a curve ball just something to think about.

In my opinion the blueprint was already laid out by Victor Ortiz, Miguel Cotto, and Marcos Maidana was the fighter who put the “icing on the cake”. I believe the blueprint to defeat Floyd Mayweather is – 1. Speed 2. Power 3.Movement and most importantly of all is 4. Awkward Punches / Punches from different angles

Now I understand that all three guys lost but I want you to focus on the effects of damage they placed on Floyd Mayweather during the fight. I believe Victor Ortiz suffered that “sucker punch” because of his poor decision to head butt Floyd of coarse but I also believe Mayweather did not like how effective Ortiz was. What Ortiz did was a strategy almost like Mike Tyson were he would raise his guard to his face sway side to side and bend at the waist ducking low then he would press forward with a high level of jabs and crosses to push Mayweather back to the rope’s.

When Ortiz had Mayweather on the ropes just like Maidana he would “unload” shots repeatedly and it was effective until Ortiz would back-off and brought Mayweather to the center of the ring. Miguel Cotto was the first guy to really make Floyd Mayweather bleed from effective punches and he also picked up the same strategy as Victor Ortiz which was a high guard bend at the waist jab/cross to push Mayweather back to the ropes and then “unload” a high volume of punches on the ropes.

Miguel Cotto though added some awkward punches by throwing to the body mixed with the jab cross to the face and when on the ropes instead of a jab/cross he would periodically change to a jab/hook to throw Mayweather off his rhythm. As the Mayweather vs. Cotto fight wore on Cotto made the same mistake as Ortiz by baking off to the middle of the ring which is the “danger zone” in favor of Mayweather because that gives Mayweather space and time to think.

Now in my opinion Marcos Maidana put the icing on the cake because he was the fighter out of the three that executed the awkward angle punches the best. The question I have is this, how is it Marcos Maidana lost both fights but the second fight is where he did the most damage and landed fewer punches threw less punches and connected far less? What made me pay attention was the ending of the third round were Maidana rocked Mayweather which never happens and I rate that shot above Shane Mosley’s shot vs Floyd Mayweather.

At the end of the Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 fight Floyd Mayweather’s lip was busted and his nose looked broken but since Maidana did far less this time around that should not have happened it doesn’t make sense. Looking back at that fight the shots that were awkward and the shots Mayweather didn’t expect like that third round shot is what got him and believe I know why. I will explain my theory in Part 2 of this article.
