Exciting times for the Brits

saunders56235By Kbarsey: Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank Snr, Johnny Nelson, Naseem Hamed, Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe just to name a few have all been fantastic boxers who have had successful careers. As have many Brits from our Previous generation (too many to list).

But as we embark on 2015 I truly believe Britain’s boxing scene has something to be excited about. Assessing Britain’s current crop of talent one has to believe that they will surpass our previous generation.

Kell Brook in my opinion did fantastically well, Carl Froch still possesses two world titles. Jamie Mcdonnell is also a world champion as is Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton.

Then come the contenders. Paul smith will fight this weekend against a veteran of the art in Arthur Abraham, George Groves is mandatory for the WBC.  James Degale is all but knocking on the door of the IBF, Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora will face off eventually in a final eliminator and they will be joined I believe by Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverley. And who can forget the exciting, talented and sometimes vulnerable Amir Khan.

Billy Joe Saunders is European champion who has potential as does his previously beaten foe John Ryder. All the other Smith brothers have something to offer and I do feel Martin Murray has something still to prove. But how many of the fighters mentioned or not mentioned will go on to win a world title, but also defend it and be in with the best fighters in the world? The amazing thing is they all have a chance.

We can have all the talent in the world but ultimately it comes down to the PROMOTERS! Honestly I have faith in Eddie Hearn who has proved many times he is willing to give his fighters the opportunities to fulfil their dreams as has Frank Warren. Only time will tell who will be great but I want to hear who you think will be fighting at the top for years to come.
