Groves: I see panic in Froch, he’s just not good enough

froch0002By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) sees too many holes in IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) for him to beat him this Saturday night in their rematch. Groves seems Froch as being overmatched in every department – speed, power and skills – and he feels there’s really nothing he can do but accept his defeat and surrender nobly. His WBA and IBF straps will change hands on Saturday night in an official changing of the guard that will be witnessed by 80,000 fans.

Groves sees the worry all over Froch’s face each time he’s with him. He’s got the 1000 yard stare of someone who knows they’re going to lose and lose badly in front of a lot of people.

“I see panic. I see a man who’s worried, I see a man who’s got to face the inevitable, and that’s a beating from me,” Groves said to the BBC Sport. “I can beat Carl for hand speed, foot speed, and I can hurt him. It doesn’t matter how Carl approaches this fight, he’s just not good enough.”

I got to say I think it might be bad for Froch this time. I can’t see this fight being halted prematurely like last time, so I don’t think Froch will get a miracle there. I also doubt that Groves will use up all of his fireworks early like last time.

I believe that he’s learned his lesson from the last fight, and will be looking to fight at a much slower pace so that he can keep Froch from getting his shots in. Groves will almost surely pick Froch apart with one punch at a time and frustrate him to no end in order to use his hand speed advantage. Groves didn’t fully utilize his hand speed the last time he fought Froch, but he likely will this time around.

“I took too many steps back, but I won’t be taking a backwards step in this fight,” Froch said.

Froch can come forward but if Groves if focusing on his boxing and not looking to mix it up, then it really won’t matter if Froch isn’t taking a backwards step. He’ll struggle nonetheless.
