Is Mayweather running scared? Really?

canelo84By P.L. DuPee: I have been a long time reader, but never managed to post anything. The primary reason for my lack of contribution is the flagrant bias shown on the part of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fans. I know what you are thinking “Another Manny/Floyd article” but just hear me out. I read through the comments and wondered if the people posting them honestly believe what they are saying or are they just being confrontational for the sake of getting a reaction or getting the most responses.

Let me say this first – and with great confidence, I can assume that everyone who has ever posted on this site can relate to me. I do not personally know either one of these fighters. I am not related to, done business with, or a friend of either fighter. I do not train with them or advise them on any matters personally or professionally. With that said, any opinions that we all have are observational. If we are solely using our powers of observation, why are so many people coming up with all of these strange theories and opinions.

What I am having a problem with is understanding how and why we continuously keep placing the blame on the fight between the two not happening on Mayweather. Does he play a part in the situation – an emphatic yes? Why is it so hard to see that Mayweather cares more about business and financial control than boxing status or legacy? Sure he sells that “Best Fighter Ever” mantra, but his actions show that he truly doesn’t care what we (the public) or boxing historians think, as long as we pay $59.99 on fight night. So many hall of fame fighters retired broke but praised. Is it better to be considered the best fighter ever and broke or considered less than that and be financially secure after boxing?

I honestly believe he would fight his uncle and trainer Rodger if he could guarantee 3 million plus pay per view buys.

Let me not paint him to be a man that doesn’t care about boxing, because he is always in shape and always prepared and focused come fight night.
When it comes to the Pacquiao/ Top rank situation, I find it hard to believe that so many, so called fans, can’t see what the problem is. I won’t go in to detail on all of the old Arum promoting Mayweather drama, but to sum it up easily – Mayweather thought he should have been treated like a star and Arum didn’t see star potential and screwed him out of money like most promoters do.

Now we fast forward to present day and Mayweather has proven himself to be a huge star and refuses to do business with Bob Arum. Why is that so hard to swallow? I have never heard Floyd or Manny say “I am afraid to fight him” sure we can take videos we saw on youtube and take them out of context, but neither fighter has ever been on record saying that, so let’s stop with the BS.

Even worse is Manny never says anything about Floyd unless asked. Pacquiao is a huge star in his country – Music, movies, politics, business, ect. He is not a very competent and intelligent man, a veteran boxer and a Champion, yet this “Hall of fame, 8 division champ, great fighter, that Mayweather is scared to death of” is not able to make a youtube video or go on offensive and say he wants the fight? Does he not know how to use a phone or while he is in Vegas, go to Floyd’s gym, I’m sure he is not a difficult man to find, especially if you are Manny Pacquiao.

I’m not placing all of the blame on Manny either, I just find it strange that Floyd has made several videos about him, Twitter posts, public comments, the direct phone call to offer $40 mil for the fight and Manny has done nothing to show interest in the fight. With all of that we still say Floyd is scared and Manny is dying to get his gloves on him. Am I missing something here? Are my eyes and ears not functioning properly? Maybe the rest of you know something that I don’t.

The other annoyance is the constant label of “Cherry Picker” and “Chicken” directed at Floyd Mayweather. I will present this question as simple as possible and I hope one of the comments answers it. “WHO HAS FLOYD MAYWEATHER DUCKED IN HIS PROFESSIONAL BOXING CAREER?”
The real facts show that Mayweather has faces far more dangerous opponents than Pacquiao, but that is a different story.

Are we really calling him a coward because he hasn’t fought one fighter? I reality, what has Manny Pacquiao done to be this gate keeper of greatness? I think Pacquiao is a very good fighter, but not great. I think his accomplishments are a little over inflated and his popularity is a mixture of his ethnicity and the fact that he gets to be Mayweather’s (the man we love to hate) arch enemy. I will admit that Mayweather often responds to the whole Pacquiao situation rather strangely. Why is it so hard for him to just say “I don’t do business with Bob Arum”. That ends it all, right? Just say that, so simple. I know some of you are going to ignore everything else and say “See, that’s proof that he is scared” but again, Manny has not been this eager participant either. I would be singing a different tune if Manny was saying “I want Floyd” after each fight, but he never says anything about Mayweather.

Remember the scene in Rocky 3 when Clubber Lang showed up to the unveiling of Rocky’s statue and gave the whole “Hey woman” speech. Why can’t fighters do that? Why is that so hard to do? Show up to a guy’s gym, bring cameras, and look him in the eye and ask for the fight, simple.

Shane Mosley jumped in the ring and confronted Floyd six months later he was in the ring with him. Do you think if Pacquiao got in the ring after a Mayweather fight and confronted him, face to face, Floyd would still not fight him? I think he would be forced to, but no one wants to try that, for some odd reason.

Until Pacquiao does that and Mayweather declines, I find it hard to say that he is scared.

You can’t duck a man who has never asked you to fight him.
