Mundine says he’ll be making a fight offer to Erislandy Lara

mundine544By Allan Fox: 38-year-old Anthony Mundine (46-5, 27 KO’s) is looking to put himself in position to get a big money fight against WBA junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2015, by facing interim WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) in his next fight. Mundine, #4 WBA, said last night that he’ll be making an offer to the Cuban Lara to get him in the ring as soon as possible.

Mundine said: “@Laraboxing Our offer will come soon! So take it. You come to Aussie school for a lesson. Cool out! We will see soon when we in the square circle! I ain’t gonna talk bout it but be about it. I’ll give something you never seen before! An Aboriginal lesson in boxing! Just tell your promoters to get in touch and make a deal.”

Lara said: “Everyone say you fight! You want Cuban school?”

Lara, 30, could get his biggest payday of his career in this fight, but it’ll be potentially a dangerous fight for him because the 5’11” Mundine brings super middleweight type power, and he’d have the size and power advantage over the 5’9″ Lara in this match-up. How well Lara would do will depend on whether he can move as much as possible to avoid getting hit with Mundine’s heavy shots, because he’s got better power than Alfredo Lara. That’s someone that Lara struggled to beat last year in stopping him in the 10th. Angulo knocked Lara down twice in the fight, and it might have had a much different result had Angulo’s right eye not swelled up from Lara’s shots.

Mundine has won his last two fights against Gunnar Jackson and Shane Mosley after losing a 12 round decision to former IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale last year in January. Mundine is one of those fighters that are difficult to predict what he’s going to do in the ring. He can struggle against average fighters like Jackson and Garth Wood, but his power is so good that he can give anyone problems.

Lara looked really good in beating Austin Trout by a 12 round decision in his last fight in December. Trout was very timid, and not willing to walk through Lara’s shots to land his own punches. Mundine would be willing to take Lara’s shots in order to land his bigger punches, and it could be potentially a problem for Lara unless he uses great deal of movement to keep away from Mundine. However, if Lara runs from Mundine for 12 rounds then there’s no way he’ll get a decision against him, because their fight will take place in Australia due to Mundine having the money to lure Lara over there.
