Audley Harrison talking comeback

audley77By Scott Gilfoid: 42-year-old Audley Harrison (31-7, 23 KO’s) apparently hasn’t given up on his hopes of becoming a world heavyweight division because he’s talking about a goal that he has to get to the top, and it looks like he plans on taking a risky path to a world title.

Harrison has been knocked out in the 1st round in two of his last five fights in loses to David Price and Deontay Wilder. But Audley did capture the Prizefighter heavyweight tourney earlier this year in beating a handful of 2nd tier heavyweights, so that might have him thinking he can still find success in the division.

Audley said on his twitter “I’m dreaming of the biggest mountain, the most treacherous pathway to climb. If I fall along the way, I plan to go out strong #negu 💤💤😎🇬🇧👊💤💤”

I wonder who Audley plans on fighting to to take the treacherous path to a world title? Is it going to be some soft jobs or will he choose to fight the best, if he can even get a fight against a top contender now. He already got trounced by Deontay, so he’s definitely out. There’s no point in him fighting domestic heavyweights like Anthony Joshua, Price and Dereck Chisora because none of them are ranked in the top 15, and they won’t give Audley any forward progress even if he were to beat all three of them.

Audley needs to take on some top contenders in the division and probably beat at least three of them to get ranked high enough to get the attention of one of the Klitschko brothers. I could definitely see the Klitschkos going for a fight against Audley if he could somehow rejuvenate his career by beating some named heavyweights in the top 15.

The problem is isn’t so incredibly unlikely that it’s almost laughable to even discus such a scenario. Audley has proven where his level is in his losses to David Haye, Price and Deontay. Audley can beat 2nd tier fighters like Derric Rossy, Martin Rogan and Claus Bertino no problems. But those guys aren’t top tier heavyweights, and none of them are what I would consider the treacherous path for Audley to take. Heck, Audley could probably beat those type of heavyweights until he’s 50, and still not break the top 15.

At this point he’s had way too many losses when he’s stepped up, so he’s going to need to beat some really top guys for him to get in position for a world title shot. That means it’s a waste of time for Audley to fight the Josua’s Chisora’s of the local scene. He needs the likes of Kubrat Pulev, Chris Arreola, Bryant Jennings, Mike Perez, Odlanier Solis, Tomasz Adamek, Robert Helenius, Andy Ruiz or Bermane Stiverne to get himself in position for a world title shot. Like I said, Audley will need to beat at least three of those guys without taking anymore losses for him to get ranked high enough for one of the Klitschkos to give him a crack at their belts.
