Froch brags about knocking Groves down in sparring

froch55By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) thinks he’s going to knockout #1 WBO, #2 WBA contender George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) in their fight 2 months from now on November 23rd at the Phones 4u Arena, Manchester, United Kingdom. Why does Froch think he’s going to KO Groves? Well, because years ago when Groves was a lot younger than he is now, Froch knocked him down in one of their sparring sessions. Never mind that it was a one-time thing that happened before the now 25-year-old Groves had developed as a fighter, Froch thinks it means something for their bout in November.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “I put him over myself in sparring, and to be honest, I was pulling my punches when I hit him. I sport of hit him with a half a shot as I knew it was going to land, so I pulled it and it still decked him and he’s been knocked out a few times…there’s only going to be one result and that’s going to be George Groves knocked out on the floor.”

I sense desperation and, yes, fear on Froch’s part because he’s facing his first real test since Andre Ward did whipped him. Groves has Andre Dirrell type skills with Jermain Taylor power, and that’s going to make it awfully tough for Froch in this fight. We saw how Dirrell schooled Froch in the past and how Taylor had Froch badly hurt on the canvas. Dirrell also had Froch staggering for a brief second when he unleashed his power on him.

Groves is a nightmare opponent for Froch because Grove learned a ton from Dirrell in their sparring sessions and he’s been using a lot of his techniques ever since. Froch can’t handle movement at all, period, and Groves is going to be moving and using feints all night long to have Froch swinging and missing wildly.

You can expect Froch to spin completely around after some of his misses like he was doing in his recent fight with Mikkel Kessler last May. Believe me, if Froch pulls that number on Groves then he’s going to get brained with a nice shot to the back of the head. Froch should know that you never turn you back on your opponents like that.

A loss for Froch in this fight is going to be a huge blow to his career because where does he go after you loss to Groves. I mean, it’s not as if Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn can keep asking the British public to pay 15 pounds to see Froch fight after Groves whips him. The only way you sell another PPV fight after this is if there’s a rematch between Froch and Groves, because Froch is going to need to avenge the loss to try and prove to fans that it was just a fluke thing.

That’ll be Froch’s second mistake, because Groves will beat him again and leave him basically on skid row with very few opportunities. Sure, Froch can come to the U.S and finally face Dirrell and Ward again in rematches, but he’s going to be really up against it in both of those fights.
