Manny Pacquiao- hard work, dedication- I’m not so sure

pac31By Mr. Pennington: When I hear Floyd Mayweather say “HARD WORK, DEDICATION” I think of the old school type workouts he does. I think of the lonely nights on Nevada roads he runs alone at the wee hours of morning. Floyd’s workouts are too many considered out dated, and who wants to workout at 2:30 in the morning anyway.

When I think Of Manny Pacquiao, oddly the same thought doesn’t come to mind. When I think of Pac doing his road work, I think of adoring fans joining in for the run at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. I think of Reggie Miller (of all people) completing the run, stride for stride with Pacquiao as we seen on TNT leading into his last fight.

I think of hoards of fans daily filing into the Wild Card gym to get a glimpse of the living legend. And while all this is going on, Pacquiao still must have time to be congressman, a father, and a husband. Pacquiao who is an international celebrity has many hands to shake, known as an icon, but his job title is still at the moment a boxer.

It’s been scientifically proven that humans are horrible at multi-tasking. Even when we think we are multi-tasking, in reality we are only putting one thing down to do another. Mayweather for example seems to stay very close to home while focusing solely on boxing. Pacquiao on the other hand seem to have a full load with obligations worldwide. I have to question just how hard Freddie Roach pushes Pacquiao at this point in their relationship.

Floyd seemed to have put his father Floyd Sr. in charge because of Rogers failing health. I wonder with Freddie’s large stable of fighters, should he not have some help training Pacquiao. Could be a case of to many yes men, if Buboy is your head assistant, I can’t see Pacquiao being pushed much farther than he feels necessary.

Just using the eye test, it seems between the two that one guy is a world celebrity that is obligated to many business ventures aside from boxing. While the other seems to have no unwanted distraction in his life. I’m not implying that Manny Pacquiao doesn’t work hard, but what I am implying is that Manny Pacquiao may have far too many distractions in his life.

This sentiment many Pacquiao fans have expressed over the past year. When does too much multi-tasking become a detriment, I’d say when you lose focus on your main priority, for Manny Pacquiao, figuring which of his priorities is the main concern may be the challenge.
