Raymond Narh; former Olympian records a win after two years without fight
By Oral Ofori: Ray ‘Sugar Ray’ Narh of Ghana announced his return to the ring with a convincing win over Ronald Cruz on June 14, 2013 at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Pennsylvania USA where both fighters locked horns in a Welterweight division bout. Narh dedicated the win to his mother; Flory.
Both boxers came into the match with losses from their last fights; Cruz saw his last fight barely a year ago but Ray hadn’t fought in over two years and so the odds were stacked against him as a lot of the experts were in doubt of the Ghanaian’s shape.
That assertion was however thrown way as Ray Narh dominated the fight from start to finish till he won by a 10 round unanimous decision after scoring high on the cards of all three judges on fight night. A week prior to this fight, I talked to Ray Narh and his confidence was so infectious that I was not surprised as I sat and watched the fight on TV via NBC Sports Network ‘Fight Night’.

Narh had Cruz on the offensive for almost 90 percent of the entire fight and in a post match interview, Cruz readily admitted that he had lost to a better fighter who was sharper with punches and footworks.
Team Ray Narh was relaxed and confident the entire fight with trainer Kwame Asante saying ‘it wasn’t that Ray didn’t want to fight; nobody wanted to fight him. He just needed to stay in shape and get someone to fight him. When this opportunity came up, he took it and made the most of it.’ Speaking on the fight, Ray said he never doubted victory one minute because there was nothing that Cruz did that he didn’t expect.
The 2000 former Olympian who represented Ghana in Sydney Australia made a bold attempt by calling on big name fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jnr, Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Timothy Bradley among others to face him as he launched his bid to become a world champion for Ghana soon after his 26th career win.
