By Allan Fox: Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez have almost identical reasons why they chose to fight for a fourth time this coming December 8th. Both of them want to prove to themselves and to boxing fans who the better fighter is between them. Pacquiao has a 2-0-1 lead in the three fights, but the victories, as well as the 12 round draw that Pacquiao got in the three fights, were pretty much empty ones as they were selected by a small set of judges who scored the fight the opposite of what many boxing fans saw it.

Here’s what Pacquiao and Marquez had to say to each other on ESPN this week:

Pacquiao: “Marquez, why do you think you beat me two times.

Marquez: “I think I won the last three fights because I did my best job in the ring and people know what happened in those three fights.

Pacquiao: “If you think you beat me in those last three fights then why are you once again fighting me? Well, there’s a lot of doubts in the minds of fans. We have to answer those to show fans who’s going to win. That’s why we have a fourth fight. We’re going to give a good show to the people who are going to watch us on December 8th.”

It’s still unclear who many people will be watching the fourth fight because Pacquiao and Marquez, because a lot of the reaction that has come from this fight is that many fans see it as an attempt from the fighters and their promoters to squeeze the public for money by putting on a fight that has been played out so many times in the past. Fans want to see new fights against different opponents for Pacquiao and Marquez, yet they keep getting pitted against each other because the fight makes money.
