What would I change about boxing?

By Dan Henderson: I get asked this question a lot and it is a tough one to answer but I’ll put some ideas out there.

The first thing I would do would be to have one governing body which would mean one world title in each weight division so you would have no ‘super’ or ‘interim’ champion because at the moment you could have 6-8 fighters claiming they are world champions at each weight which is in my opinion ridiculous.

Second of all I would change the way the rankings work because there should be no way someone ranked 6th should be allowed a crack at the title, to move up the rankings you should have to fight the person directly above you.

I would give the governing body the right to take blood and urine samples whenever they felt like it regardless of whether a fighter is in training or not as long as they held a license. With regards to the financial side of boxing all fighters would split the purse equally and there promoters could only take a small cut.

In an ideal world that would be the changes I’d make but it would never happen and here is why. Greed, fighters and promoters are to greedy and could you imagine the top P4P fighters being told to fight more than twice a year because of the lack of titles fights or greedy promoters who like to bleed their fighters dry or even the WBC, WBO, IBF, WBA and the countless others with their ‘super’, ‘interim’, ‘diamond’ championships they create to take even more money with sanctioning fees.

These are my opinions and I would love to hear what you think.
