Image: Froch-Kessler rematch in doubt, negotiations not running smoothlyBy Scott Gilfoid: The Carl Froch – Mikkel Kessler negotiations aren’t going smoothly for a 2012 fight, confesses Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports. There’s a question whether Hearn will be able to satisfy what Kessler wants financially.

Hearn told Thisisnottingham.co.uk “There has been plenty of hype around the Kessler fight. It’s a fight we want, but sometimes making a fight of this magnitude isn’t always easy. Carl would step into the ring with Mikkel at any moment, but meeting his financial demand may cause more of an issue. Either way, the fight will happen, this year or next.”

I wouldn’t be too sure of that if I were Hearn. Coming up with the green stuff to satisfy a popular fighter like Kessler may prove to be next to impossible unless Froch is okay with taking the short money. I mean, if Froch is so confident that he’ll win the fight then I don’t see why he wouldn’t turn over most of his paycheck to Kessler in order to make the fight happen.

After all, it was Froch the lost to Kessler the last time they fought and not the other way around. If Froch dips into his cash for the fight and gives Kessler a nice chunk of it to wet his beak, I’m sure the fight will get made. I’m still not sure about the venue, though. I heard Kessler wants the fight to take place in either Denmark or a neutral venue. I’m all for that. It’s got to be a neutral venue for this bout.

Kessler needs to stand firm and not give Froch the home ground, because we saw what happened to talented American Andre Dirrell when he fought Froch in Nottingham in 2009. Kessler can’t afford to lose another fight, because he’s getting up there in age and it wipe out more important fights against WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward and a fight against the winner of the Arthur Abraham vs. Robert Stieglitz bout.

You have to wonder if Hearn is going to be able to come up with the green stuff to get Kessler to take the fight. Look at another one of Hearn’s fighters, Kell Brook. They recently wanted Marcos Maidana to fly over from Argentina and fight Brook in the UK. However, Maidana said he wasn’t offered much money to take the fight so he instead rejected the idea. Does Hearn have the money to even get Kessler?

Well, if Hearn can’t come up with the cash to get Kessler to fly over to the UK and possibly risk getting royally jobbed, then perhaps Hearn can come up with enough of that green stuff to lure Andre Dirrell over for a rematch. He’s been chomping at the bit wanting to get back in the ring to avenge his loss to Froch. This may be the perfect opportunity if Hearn can’t come up with the Kessler money to get him for Froch.
