Image: Pacquiao tactics revealed for Bradley fightBy Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao spilled the beans in showing what his tactics will be to try and escape the heavy pressure from his unbeaten challenger Timothy Bradley (28-0, 12 KO’s) on June 9th.

On Sky Sports Ringside, Pacquiao showed that he’s going to try and use elusive movement to dodge the attacks from the younger 28-year-old Bradley, and then counter him from the sides after moving. For Pacquiao, it’s no big surprise because it’s the same stuff he’s been doing for many years now, but it’s interesting that he’ll continue to try and fight like this against Bradley.

It looked good in Pacquiao being able to elude the slow attacks from Sky Ringside host Johnny Nelson, but in practical application, I don’t think Pacquiao’s legs are going to be able to handle all the hoping around and constantly shifting of weight.

We’ve already seen that Pacquiao can’t keep up that kind of fighting style for more than three or four rounds without cramping up and being reduced to a plodder. Pacquiao obviously is hoping he doesn’t experience leg problems in the Bradley fight, but given that Pacquiao has suffered leg cramps in his last three fights, you can bet that they’re here to stay.

If anything, Pacquiao may get the leg cramp problems a lot sooner in this fight because Bradley is a lot quicker and better at putting pressure on his opponents. Bradley is also a lot faster in reacting to things happening in the ring. He’s no Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito. He’s not slow and he’s not weight drained like those guys were. Bradley is moving up in weight, and he’s going to be strong at 147, stronger than he was when he had to lose weight to make 140.

All the weight that Pacquiao’s strength trainer Alex Ariza has put on him in the last few years and has taken away Pacquiao’s speed and ability to move around the ring like he used to. Even at looking at Pacquiao jump around while showing Nelson how he’ll be fighting Bradley, Pacquiao’s legs didn’t look strong and he didn’t seem like he was capable of fighting in the manner for more than a couple of rounds at the most.

Pacquiao just looks like an older guy trying to fight in a manner that his body is no longer capable of fighting. Pacquiao’s mind wants him to fight like that, but his body is going to likely break down if he tries it for more than a couple of rounds.
