Image: Wladimir battles Mormeck in two weeksBy Jason Kim: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) takes on Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s) in the next two weeks on March 3rd in what Wladimir hopes will be a a much easier fight than his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko experienced against Dereck Chisora last weekend in Munich, Germany.

Mormeck is ranked higher than Chisora at #9 IBF, #10 WBA, #10 WBO compared to Chisora’s #14 WBC, and has better hand speed, and arguably better boxing skills. Mormeck’s power is about equal to Chisora. The main differences between Chisora and Mormeck is Chisora’s heavier weight at 245 compared to the 215 pound Mormeck; his younger age at 28 compared to the 39-year-old Mormeck and his height. But Mormeck is still about as Chisora and could give Wladimir a lot of problems if he’s able to get inside on Wladimir and or wear him down the way that Chisora did with Vitali.

Mormeck obviously knows Wladimir’s weaknesses to inside pressure having seen Wladimir get stopped by Lamont Brewster in the past. The trick for Mormeck is to get inside without getting hit with anything big, throw his own shots, and then get away quickly before Wladimir has a chance to grab him and lean on him with his 245 pound frame. Mormeck can’t hold that kind of weight time after time without tiring. It’s too difficult to have someone that heavy grabbing you eight or so times per round and leaning the way Wladimir does. Mormeck will need to have quick feet and a good inside game to take advantage of his time on the inside.

The fight between Wladimir and Mormeck will be taking place at the ESPRIT arena, Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany and there are expected to a huge crowd that shows up for this fight. The seating capacity for the arena is 50,000+ and Wladimir will very likely be fighting in front of a sold out arena for this one. It’s kind of hard to imagine because the fight is considered to be a mismatch but in Germany, Wladimir is a big star and his fights sell out no matter he faces.
