Pacquiao will rely on speed and quickness against Marquez

By John F. McKenna (McJack): World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s) will use the basic principles he has used for the last several years to defeat WBO/WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1. 39 KO’s) in the 3rd fight of their trilogy.

Pacquiao and Marquez will clash on November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to establish once and for all who the superior fighter is.

Conditioning coach Alex Ariza was quoted in the Philippine Star today saying:
“We’re concentrating on quickness and speed.”

Ariza believes that “Pacman” should stick with what has been successful in carrying him to victory in the past and enabled him to win championships in eight different divisions.

Ariza added that is nothing mysterious. No new, secret strategy will be employed in the Trilogy.

Pacquiao is in his final week of training in Baguio City. He will be flying to Los Angeles on October 9 to enter into the final phase of his preparation for the Marquez fight.

Pacquiao has been going all out in his sparring sessions with Venezuelan Jorge Linares, who will fight Antonio Demarco for the WBC lightweight title at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on October 15. Linares was brought in to spar with Pacquiao because like Marquez, he is a smart fighter. Manny is scheduled to spar ten rounds today.

During his roadwork on Monday “Pacman” suffered leg cramping similar to what he experienced in his fight last May with Shane Mosley. Manny quickly shook off the leg cramps, which were attributed to the curtailment of his roadwork last week due to weather conditions.

Buboy Fernandez, Manny’s Filipino trainer noted that there is little time for “Pacman” to relax and that he had to make the most of the rime he had remaining in training camp.

Ariza acknowledges that Marquez is an intelligent fighter who looks for opportunity.
Alex believes that Pacquiao’s tremendous speed will make the difference and that Marquez will find it difficult to block punches that are coming from angles that he can’t even see.

Ariza does not believe that Marquez will be able to handle Pacquiao’s speed and increased power on November 12.
