Image: Marquez can earn himself a huge payday if he whips PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: If Juan Manuel Marquez wants to make some real money all he has to do is beat WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on November 12th, and he’ll automatically earn a 4th with the Filipino star. Along with a 4th fight, Marquez will make an even bigger payday than the $5 million guarantee he’s getting for this fight.

Marquez could make as much as $10 million in a 4th fight with Pacquiao, which no doubt would set him and his children up for life if he doesn’t blow it all on gambling and poor business investments. The best part of beating Pacquiao this time is that Marquez won’t have to wait four years to get a rematch.

This has happened after each of their first two fights. Marquez fought Pacquiao in 2004, dominating him but having to settle for a controversial 12 round draw. Instead of getting a rematch, Marquez had to wait four years until 2008 before he could fight Pacquiao again. In that fight, Marquez appeared to win again, and this time he was on the receiving end of a bitterly controversial 12 round split decision loss.

Again, Marquez wasn’t given an immediate rematch and had to wait another four years to get a third fight with Pacquiao. However, watch hows things change when/if Marquez beats Pacquiao. There’s no way that Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank are going to sit back and take their lumps without trying to set up a quick rematch.

Believe me, Pacquiao likely won’t have to wait more than four months to get back in the ring with Marquez for a fourth fight and one that will leave Marquez a very rich man in Mexico. The trick here is for Marquez to get a the decision over the more popular Pacquiao. That’s not going to be easy when Pacquiao is such a star. You got to see Pacquiao being given rounds that are somewhat close but where Marquez appears to do the better work. Marquez may have to really dominate to get a decision win unfortunately.
