Maidana knocked Petrov down three times in the fight – twice from right hands and once with a left to the body. After the bout, Maidana’s trainer Rudy Perez said this to fightnews.com: “We’re ready to go back to the U.S, [Erik] Morales, [Timothy] Bradley, [Amir] Khan. We’ll take all comers.”

Maidana was more to the point, saying he wants Morales next because of all the talking Morales did after Maidana chose not to fight a rematch with him recently when Lucas Matthysse pulled out of his fight with Morales due to an illness one week before the fight.

Maidana didn’t want to take the fight on only one week’s notice. Instead, Morales fought little known fringe contender Pablo Cesar Cano, and stopped him in the 10th round in an unimpressive performance to captured the WBC light welterweight title. Maidana wants to fight Morales in a unification bout in early 2012. As far as Khan goes, Morales said he won’t waste his breath trying to call him out, as he sees Khan as too afraid to fight him again.

The Morales-Maidana rematch looks to be the most likely fight for Maidana next, although a fight against Timothy Bradley, the WBO light welterweight champion, would also be an interesting fight for him. However, Morales is more popular than Bradley and a rematch against him would be the better option for Maidana if Khan isn’t interested in taking the fight.
