Donaire-Gamboa in 2012? Don’t hold your breath waiting for it to happen

By Chris Williams: With both Nonito Donaire and Yuriorkis Gamboa fighting for the same promotional company under Bob Arum at Top Rank, you would think a fight between Donaire and Gamboa would be one that should be fairly easy to put together. Unfortunately, I can’t see it happening anytime soon, as Arum likes to let big fights marinate and sometimes he waits far too long for that to happen.
The same thing I can see happening with Gamboa and Donaire. Both are really good fighters, but you never know what may happen. I think Donaire is vulnerable and could get beat in the future if he faces the wrong guy. Gamboa seems pretty solid at this point, and I can’t see him getting beaten a year from now. He’s top notch.
Arum is talking about putting Donaire and Gamboa together in 2012, but hopefully he’s learned something from the Gamboa-Lopez fight that it doesn’t pay to let fights marinate. You got to make the fights while they’re still on top, not after one of them gets exposed and fans lose interest. I don’t think the Lopez-Gamboa fight will ever be what it could have been, and if Lopez gets spanked again by Salido, which is what I think will happen, the opportunity for a big cash out fight between Lopez and Gamboa will be lost. This is why Arum needs to get with it and Donaire and Gamboa together next year. I see it as an easy fight for Gamboa. He’ll walk through Donaire’s left hook and smack him around until he gets a stoppage.

To Kingpin. Donaire is no fake. There’s a reason he’s now listed on most boxing scribes’ Top-10 PfP list, with most listing him at #3. And it’s because Donaire is freaking good!

It would be a shootout but I’m leaning towards Donaire because of his height & reach. Rigondeaux would be a better fight for Donaire.

Donaire to finish Gamboa in any of 1 to 3rd rounds. lol! He’s just awesome, skillfull, strong, intelligent, tough, quick with swithcing styles, exoerienced, knockout artist, tall and with long arm reach. Gamboa to win?????? Whoa!
Williams, I think you are unaware that Gamboa has been floored a few times in his career so far!? If Donaire catches him with those dynamic shots that Montiel took, then the cuban will be in la la land. Nonito so far, has shown a good chin, and has improved his speed with his high tech training.

I think donaire should figth rigondeaux, that’s the real beast at 122. Rigo is a better boxer and punches as hard or stronger than donaire. I know arum knows about it, he sart to protect donaire the same way he did with lopes… Rigo beats him.
Gamboa knocks out Donaire in 5 or less rounds that is why this match won’t be made
Too soon,too light, Donaire should set a match with Rigondeaux first.
I love Gamboa! But I think Donaire would do a Floyd Mayweather Junior on him. Donaire would sharp-shoot Gamboa on the way in and frustrate him. Gamboa is explosive but that wicked offense leaves him open and Donaire would fill those holes. Prediction: Donaire picks Gamboa apart and wins a comfortable decision.
This would be the best fight in this division. And it’s all about promoting the fight that builds the fight, not marinade. Bob is good at promoting and needs to build hype that way or he will lose the chance to make the fight happen all over again.
Gamboa solid? Fun to watch because he is vulnerable with his lack of defense and all ofensive style. Donaire is way more round ofense-defense.
I have been a long time read at this site and never and I mean never agreed to any of Chris Williams post except for this one. I totally agree with Chris. It might not be to easy for Gamboa but it should be an interesting fight. Gamboa winning by a late KO.
