Bradley looking for Pacquiao and Mayweather, not Khan

By William Mackay: Despite receiving a massive amount of criticism for not facing IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan in a unification bout, WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley is unconcerned about the heat he’s taking from both Khan and fans.

Bradley only wants the big money fights against Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr right now, and a bout against Khan would likely pay one quarter of what he would get if he can get fights against Mayweather or Pacquiao.

“I’m looking for the bigger fish, the bigger fights – the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fights,“ Bradley said to the Desert Sun. “I know there will be a lot of criticism from everyone. But that won’t bother me. I’m going to do what’s best for my family and my career…I’m eating over here.”

Bradley is right about this. Why take the small money to fight Khan and maybe get jobbed out of a decision if it’s close, when he’s got the chance to get huge money to fight Pacquiao or Mayweather. Bradley would have a good chance of beating Khan, but with bigger paydays staring him in the face, it doesn’t make sense to fight someone like Khan for a lot less money.

Khan is someone that’s hard to beat by a decision because of his long arms and all the running around he does. Bradley might have to knock Khan out to get a win, and that would be asking a lot of Bradley given that he only has 11 knockouts on his record.

Khan also wants a fight against Mayweather, and isn’t exactly taking a lot of risks right now. Khan just faced an old Zab Judah, who his team obviously knew was no longer a threat to him. Khan isn’t facing dangerous guys like Breidis Prescott, Lucas Matthysse and isn’t eager to fight a rematch with Marcos Maidana, even though his fight with him last December was the fight of year.

Khan wants the Bradley fight because he doesn’t have much power and is someone that Khan thinks he matches up well against. He may end up fighting Bradley, but only after he fights either Mayweather or Pacquiao first and maybe both. Khan needs to put a sock in it and either take on some of the dangerous he’s been putting off or move up to welterweight and take the deep plunge against stronger fighters that could knock him out.
